How many calories?!

I have started the 12 week weight loss programme through work, and even though I'm female, I have been told to consume 1,900 calories per day. Is this correct?

Hi check out the BMI calculator which gives a more tailored/personal calorie range and aim for the middle figure then you have reducing room to work down

Thank you, that makes it more tailored to myself

Hi Fitbythirty, I thought the number of calories was dependent on your current weight and how you want to lose weight maybe a couple of pounds a week. It would be 1900 reduced by the exercise. I am currently on 1700 so think its about right

Hello and welcome, Fitbythirty :)

I found the relevant calorie range for me at the NHS BMI calculator, ate in the middle of that range and lost slightly over 1lb a week during the 12 weeks. It's important, of course, that you concentrate on what you eat and you'll get help with that in the Daily Diary. I also recommend you join a weekly weigh-in, for team support. You'll find them both, and everything else you need to get the best out of the forum, in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Active participation can give you a real boost so I hope we'll see you around :)

Thank you for your reply. I have a weekly weigh in with work. I have my first weigh in on Yuesday, I will let you know how I get on!

You could join the Tuesday team, then, or Wednesday, with your Tuesday weight :) You'll get more chance for a chat if you post in the morning so that's why I'm thinking Wednesday, rather than after work on Tuesday, but it's whatever works for you :)

Hi, Fitbythirty , welcome.

I got "Slim by 70".

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works, without counting calories, is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

If you go to the BMI calculator you can work out your personal allowance and it to top end of it then gives you wiggle room as loose weight.
