Well, here I go again. I am perhaps the world's worst loser. Every time I try, I can't, get discouraged, give up, get disgusted with myself, and then try again. This is a horrible cycle. Yet here I go again. I usually say wish me luck, but I am the most unlucky guy in the world. I also live on a fixed income and try to eat healthy things, but my portion control is terrible. It is either live alway hungry or stay over 250.

Here I go again and again and again...
Hello and welcome, Puppet69
It's important that you eat enough a) because your body needs it and b) because that's the only way you will sustain it. I suggest you focus more on what you eat, rather than how much. It may well be that what you see as healthy, what you've been told for decades is healthy, is what's causing you problems.

Hi, Puppet69 , welcome.
I was 69 when I joined here.
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works, for weight loss and arthritis, is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hi Puppet69 🙂
I'm new here and have often had the same 'here I go again' disheartened feeling at times but the fact that you're trying again shows how resilient you are. I think we are often kind to others but we forget to be kind to ourselves. It's something that I'm really working on, trying to be kinder and understanding with myself by reminding myself that we live complex lives in a complex world so it isnt easy to lose weight or get healthier. I agree with BridgeGirl and it's the approach I'm going to try now, to concentrate on what I'm eating rather than how much and hopefully it'll lead to controlling portion sizes later.
