My name is Julie and I am fat!!

It's not love handles, curvaceous or any other words to make it sound sexy.... it's fat Jules 😂

Weight 112kgs and waist 41.5inches...not good 🙁 I was a chubby kid...."oh it's just puppy fat she will grow out of it". Which lead to my teens,20's,30s,40s and here we are in mid 50s! I have tried most diets over the years..always doing well but then slowly returning to old ways. It's not that I want to it's normally boredom of a fixed regime.

I found this app and thought come on Julie "let's try one last time". So here I am...confessing my weight and measurements much to my embarrassment ☺️

I was wondering how others have found their first weeks...as they always are the hardest I think. 😁

I am going to start the couch to 5k in conjunction for the exercise.

I am climbing Ben Nevis in 8 weeks time...I have to do something otherwise I won't get out of the carpark 🤣😂🤣

Hi and welcome, Jules :)

Your story sounds much the same as most of ours, so take heart, there is light at the end of the tunnel :)

Climbing Ben Nevis is on my bucket list, so I'm very envious! If you can manage that, you're not doing too badly at all! :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi Julie and welcome, I love this forum and have found it has helped me change my eating habits in a few weeks. I think it will still take many more months to fully change, but I'm happy to stay here chatting with these lovely people, stealing food ideas and picking up tips and ways of thinking along the way.

My advice, don't just read other people's posts, join in, daily diaries are fantastic, weekly weigh-ins very motivating, daily drop ins just nice for a chat.

Good luck and hope you see your name popping up on our chats.

Hi, I'm Gaynor and I'm fat too.!!

I joined on Saturday and I'm hoping it will help me do something about the 'enormous' and ever growing problem I have!!

I too have been on every diet ever produced, and even had some success, but then I lose the will, have a 'break' and then find myself fatter than I was before.

I need to lose weight and I need to be fitter but it just seems such an awesome task.

Anyway, joining this group has helped already. I'm more motivated and I'm looking forward to this being the time it clicks and I make progress.

Good luck with Ben Nevis. I've only ever done it in the cable car. My brother has done it many times ( he's the dirty, I'm the fatty). You'll have to move in to the three peaks next😛

Hi Gaynor....thank you for replying to my post...being a newbie everything always looks so daunting lol.

I have followed you as i think it helps to have a diet buddy if that's ok?

In all this heat we have been having down here in the south i have felt sticky and bloated. Every one is floating around in their pretty dresses and i'm puffing away under layers lol.

Its no good i'm the only one who can do it so given myself a kick up the backside and given the mountain climb motivation for my first goal.

i'd love to walk more without gasping for oxygen so here goes lol.

I know exactly how you feel. I live in the north east and it's not a nice day but it is warm. Everyone looks cool and fresh and there's me puffing and blowing, sweating and generally feeling uncomfortable. Every year I say 'I won't be like this next year' and here I am the same again.

I'm trying my best and I think, in my case, more exercise is key. I'm a tutor, therefore I drive to walk, sit a lot, drive home and sit a lot.

My weights entirely my own fault and there's only me that can change it but I think a 'diet buddy' would really help. So let's be buddies. 😀

Set yourself small achievable goals - 1-2lb per week, but keep your eye on the long term goal too. Just remember 2lb a week is 102 lb.in a years time, maybe average out at 1lb per week, but that's still 56 lb lost over a year. Picture yourself 4stone lighter in one year, two stone lighter in six months. If you fall off the wagon, get straight back on it! Try not to fall into that old trap - well I've ruined today, so I might as well .......That's when you know you have got into good habits, when you can catch yourself before you really do ruin your day!

Good luck!

Hi MrsH55 hope you are ok and welcome to the forum. I was always the fatty and flabby one all the time and had problems all the time with diets and always put weight straight back with the couple of pounds plus a lot more I ever lost on diets that I would be doing for a couple of months but I hardly lost any weight at all. I joined here and originally struggled with it and then found out that the reason I always struggled was because I was never eating enough calories. I know this sounds weird but if you don't eat enough your body thinks you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you losing weight and sometimes means your putting weight on instead. I have now lost 2st and have become a lot firmer as my fat is slowly disappearing since doing this right. Check out your weight range to be able to lose weight on the NHS bmi calculator and this gives you amounts to eat between to be able to lose weight and make sure you are eating enough by calorie counting. I hope you are not making this same mistake as I did but do make sure this has not been what you have been doing in the past. Good luck with your journey.

Hi there.....I must admit when I first saw the 1400 calorie limit that was first suggested I thought to myself I am going to struggle here that's not enough calories for a girl my size.

I actually went onto the BMI calculator page and gave me the suggested calorie intake I could be having....a whooping 2000 to 2500....what a difference.

So thank you for your advise and think I am going to start with a target of 2000 calories per day knowing if I do slip I have that safety net of extra calories I can go to.

I feel positive about this eating plan as nothing is off limits really just as long as you count them into your daily allowance and I'm sure I will be soon thinking of the best ways to get the most out of my daily allowance lol x
