Hello Lady3 and welcome to this Forum! Well done on taking the step of joining us. You will have been sent a Welcome post on registration which gives you lots of advice and guidance on how to navigate this site.
There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!
The site may seem complicated to get round at first but the more you use it,the easier it will get.
You will find others who will inspire you on here who have learnt much on their weight loss journeys and who will be supportive of you on yours'. There are also a range of activities/interest groups on here from Recipes to Challenges, Mindfulness, Book Club and Fitness group- if you've an interest that's not on here, create a post and others might be inspired to join in👍
We recommend you joining a Weekly Weigh In on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback. As you explore the site you will see these pages. They open at 9pm and close by 9pm the following day, this helps members from across the world to join in as best suits them. In the UK, the Forum is quiet now but you'll see more action in the day.
It would be a good idea to check out your BMI if you've not already done so..you don't need a tape measure just your weight and height and here's a link to the NHS calculator
Don't worry about the self pity... most of us have been there at some point
Diane has already mentioned the weekly weigh-in and the Daily Diary and you'll find that many people use these two events to maintain focus, to learn and to regularly obtain support from friends.
You mention that you feel that half your life has been spent dieting so perhaps this is the time to do things differently. My experience here is that many of those that do well are those that give change a chance.
The forum is packed with helpful, friendly and knowledgeable people so do ask if you have any questions at all.
Hi lady3. I think I know how you feel and how overwhelming it can look at those moments we all have. Maybe we need those moments to drive us on?🤔
From my own experience I also know that this forum can be a great source of encouragement, fresh ideas and plain kindness. 😺Enjoy your weekend and I hope you find a pathway that works for you.
Welcome you find lots of advice and support here, and like you I too stared in the mirror and did not like what I saw. Needed to change and now at a healthy BMI because of the support of the forum.
Well done for coming on here, it's a great way of getting lots of advice and support, which you will need on your journey. In order to change you need to form good habits, eating healthily and regular exercise through walks or swimming. Don't go off like a bull in a China shop, slow and steady wins the race. Change one or two things at a time until they become a habit and then change something else. Keep popping on here and getting the support you need but also let your family know so that they, too, can support you. Keep a food diary, it helps you to watch what you eat, MyFitnessPal is a good one. Finally, there are going to be times when you slip up, acknowledge them but don't let them stop you from your goal. It's a campaign, not a single battle. Keep going, stay strong!
Hi, Lady3 , welcome - I had no problem losing a pound a week - for over a year.
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
Hello Lady3 and Welcome. I belive the best way to acheive long term weight loss in simply 'one day at a time'. Try not to think about what has gone before as this cannot be changed so is not worth our engery. It is so much more poweful to concerntrate on the things we can change. Each day is a whole new chance to succeed and I am fiding with my own weight loss journey that the best way is focusing on what I would have liked to have acheived by the end of each day. Breaking things down in to small, managble chunks like this supports you to belive it can be acheived and stops us becoming overwhelmed with the bigger long term goal. So by making daily goals I have managed to stay on track by eating healthier and introducing excersice into my daily routine. Believe in yourself,Lady3, you are stronger then you think and can do this!
