Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New year. I started my journey back in November but as soon as December hit and I changed jobs, literally everything went out the window.
I need to start getting my head back in the game as I was referred by my doctor due to my weight but just need some help.
Anyone got any good motivational tips or just any advice to keep going?! I'm only young and want to change otherwise I think I will struggle with big things later in life.
Any help and advice greatly appreciated
😘

Hi Amaliah94, as this is your first post I don't think you'll have received a Hello yet from the Admin team.so ...Hello and welcome to this Forum! You will have been sent a Welcome post on registration which gives you lots of advice and links to useful information on how to get the most out of this site.
There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!
We recommend joining a Weekly Weigh In on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary, where members log their meal plans and get useful feedback. A key feature of the Forum is the support between members which you will experience as you join in.
Please also read this information about security/privacy, especially as your post is unlocked
You will see you have been awarded a date badge to mark your joining us. Different badges(e.g. to note weight loss stages and other events) are added to active members who participate on the Weigh In days. You will see these as you explore the site.
In short our advice is,to make the most of the forum, please join in with activities, read and reply to posts, ask questions and encourage others – it will benefit you and support your progress, all best ! 😊
PS Please note that the Weight Loss Admin team do not promote fasting. Should you be interested in such methods you should check with your GP first as no one here is a medical professional and we don't know your health issues if any. Most people on here make great progress by developing understanding of what healthy food choices are so they can make better use of food for themselves and lose excess weight in the process. Onwards and downwards !😁
So you can see how it works and introduce yourself as a newbie if you want. You'll find people are very welcoming on here & that support can make a lot of difference.
if you've not done that already and think of a mini goal to work towards, that will be a help to you. Think of small steps in the first place then it's more likely you'll.stick to your plans, feel better and be more able to build in more changes if needed 😁
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
I lost weight using the nhs 12 week plan. No foods are forbidden and the focus is on home cooking of natural foods, lower amounts of saturated fats, plenty of fruit, veg, eggs, milk, beans, lean meats and wholemeal carbs as in wholemeal pasta, rice and bread. Easily lost 1-2 pounds each week. Check out dietary advice from the British Heart Foundation. Good luck
Firstly well done for admitting to yourself you need to lose weight. I have only been on here for a little while but it helps so much . Firstly I am soo over weight compared to what a weighed two years ago. The technique I am adopting is this.. I do not want to look as I am at the moment this time next year. Can’t tell you how horrible it is not being able to walk to places as I once could (because of my weight) and I do not want diabetes. So I figure I have to take control with my brain . Give it these options and with the recipes on this forum and the great people we will kick the eating the wrong food monsters backside! You are worth more as we all are . Yaaaaay! It’s just a matter of getting ourselves motivated and just think of yourself. You have a good people on this great forum. Hope this message reaches you , only I sent a message yesterday and haven’t got a clue where it ended up🤣. You can do it ! If I can you can and I fight terrible with food temptation
December is a chaotic month at the best of times, let alone starting a new job, that being said 2020 has started and a New Year to look forward to. There is no better reason to change than to care for your body, us oldies would tell you there is nothing more vital than having good health, including mental health. Change now, you are worth it... Visualise your end goal, write down how you will feel, what you will be doing, where will you be etc. Set your self milestone goals for each week, month and year. Weekly ones can be done as you go along. Think of your milestone rewards, non food of course. You have a magic wand, it's called Control, you have the power to activate and use in creative ways. Value your body its an amazing machine which deserves the best quality fuel, in fact, its so good, it runs on less than you think!! so minimise the rubbish you put in and control your portions then start your journey to a healthier you. If you take a wrong turn or bump in the road, don't use this as an excuse to go on an alternate journey, dust yourself down and get back on track. Good luck!
My advice is don't diet, just eat healthier. If you eat the right things and some rubbish in moderation (knowing when to stop) you'll lose weight naturally. Obviously exercise as well, walking, running, the gym, however you decide to get some exercise doing something is better than doing nothing. The 12 week plan is a good place to start, but also reading up on what healthy foods are and how to watch for and stop cravings are also good things to look up on the internet or on here.
Personally, I'm blogging about my journey too so that I can look back and reflect on where I've come from and how I'm doing...hopefully helping others along the way (seanfit1973.wixsite.com/fat....
Whatever your journey, stay strong and be healthy.
You are at the right place. So far I’ve found everyone really supportive and sometimes that’s half the battle. I’m new myself to my weight loss journey and from previous experience and areas I go wrong I decided to write down a few quotes or words of encouragement things I would say to a friend when giving advice so when I have those tough or tricky days I can Go back and read them to help myself. (Previously that would be the point of falling if the wagon or giving up)
I am also 25. This time of year is so hard, everything goes out of the window, things can be even harder with change (a new job).
Honestly I said to myself, okay 1st of Jan everything is going back to how it normally should be, I will calorie count etc. (I counted a banana and then went out for a big walk and had to eat out etc)
So my advise would be to start with really small changes, drinking more water every day and teas/ herbal teas or coffees rather than anything sugary.
Also it's good to track food with a counter like Myfitnesspal (I've seen on your page you like food) me too 😂 so it's a great idea to learn how to make healthier versions yourself or figure a way to fit these into your calories for the day.
You may feel, new year, new me and want to rush things and crash diet but it'll will only set you back in the long run. Taking things slowly, day by day, with mini goals and realise weightloss isn't linear.
Think of easy ways to squeeze in exercise, like walking part of the way to or from work.

I did the NHS 12 week plan and counted calories which I'd never done before and part of the way through I switched to LCHF and have lost 1st 2lbs. I have given myself time off over Christmas and New Year and partly back on track today as out for lunch , fully committed tomorrow. The plan has got to fit in to my lifestyle and my aim is to lose another stone, take a maintenance break and aim for another stone. I think this is the only way I can do weight loss. This forum is superb with great support and advice from people who have been there or know what it's like. It's here daily and can be accessed at any time. I don't think I could ask for more.
Don't think negatively. Instead of thinking about what you won't eat think about what you will eat. Concentrate on eating healthy food instead of on dieting. My husband joked yesterday "New Year, old me" . Well, that's up to you, only you can decide whether to move forward this year or stay wallowing in the hole you're in, whether to do positive things in your life or carry on making excuses. We don't have the excuse of the Christmas season for being self indulgent any more. I've just thought, perhaps you need to rethink self indulgence and treat the self you want to be, have expensive blueberries on your muesli, a fillet of fresh salmon instead of junk food, in fact adopt a different way of thinking altogether. Good luck.

Joining this forum is a great step. I only joined at the end of last year and seeing the encouragement, advice and ideas on here really helps me!
The best advice I use myself is to remind me why I am doing it. I am changing my lifestyle so that I can be healthier and happier, so I can walk upstairs without getting out of breath. When my partner or colleagues ask if I want to grab McDonalds or something, I just think - that's not going to help me get healthier is it! But on the flip-side I don't completely restrict myself. I do have some naughty foods some days, but try to chose a less-bad option or have a smaller amount so the craving is satisfied but I don't go overboard. I have lost over a stone in 8 weeks, and slowly but surely heading in the right direction. It has taken years to get your body to where it is now, it won't come off in a week. So don't lose hope if you don't see it coming off in big amounts!
First, don't think you can lose that weight in a short period of time. You have to acquire a healthy way of eating for every day of the year. Do not succumb to fad diets. Look at the Mayo Clinic Diet. I have used it as a guide for years.. For health reasons, I have had to cut out sugar, this made a big difference. I do take a glass of wine once in a while, but certainly not daily or weekly. I do not eat food for "comfort." I get on my feet and do something. Keeping my mind busy on other things and not thinking about what I will have for the next meal. When that time comes , I will make a decision from all the food in the refrigerator and cupboard. Hope there is something in this will be of help.
Hi and welcome your in the right place here and as you say easier to start now the older you get harder it gets. Read all the info admin will send see what you think will work for you and jump on in. Take it in small steps and don't think of it as a diet but healthy eating plan for life. Good luck
Hi Amaliah, you have made the best first step by joining HealthUnlocked, everybody is so supportive because we are all travelling the same path, hopefully to the same destination. I had been overweight for years without really thinking I was, I could jog, use the running machine and training equipment at work so I thought everything was lovely jubley. My eldest son,who had lost a lot of weight said to me one day he was concerned about me developing Type 2 Diabetes, that was it, found this lovely site and the rest is history, now nearly 3 stone lighter, going from tight fit 38inch to falling down 36inch trousers just makes me smile all the time. And I feel I look so much better. Starting young (25 like you) may stop the one thing I cannot do anything about without surgery, because over the years my skin has stretched and I now have a flabby fold of skin on my stomach, better than it being stretched by all the fat that used to be under it. I do now have the rare treat but never overdo it...........yet. This site has been and is the best place l ever found. Start now and let us all help you on your journey.
