Hello and welcome, alfriston, it's good to have you here, too 😊

Have you decided on a plan yet? I suggest you steer clear of diets as, by their nature, they're time limited and I think most of us are aiming for a healthy weight for life.

This is a busy place with loads of support and information to help you on your way and we've put everything you need into this Welcome Newbies post. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... I recommend joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary, where members log their meal plans and get useful feedback.

Please also read this information about security/privacy, especially as you have left your post unlocked healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

To make the most of the forum, join in with activities, read and reply to posts, ask questions and encourage others – it will all pay off for you 😊

Thanks BridgeGirl

I am finding this very interesting and just feeling my way round at the moment.

My mobility problems are mainly concerning a very painful left ankle and both knees. I have flare ups with these about 3 times a week and the condition is connected with Lupus.

I do need to lose about 1 stone in weight to get me within a healthy BMI which is now 29.6 and I am 4 foot 10 inches. Waist 34 inches.

I attend a weekly aqua class but find some of it painful on the ankle (so I am known as hopalong!) but perservering.

You're welcome :)

I know losing weight won't cure your conditions but they could make moving more comfortable. Lack of mobility won't affect your ability to lose weight: that will come down to your choice of food so feel positive above that.

Do some exploring and get involved. Plan your meals for tomorrow and join in Sunday's Daily Diary when it opens late afternoon. All directions in the Welcome Newbies post I've given you

Hi, alfriston , welcome.

Are your mobility problems obesity-related, or do you have other problems?

What is your weight loss plan?

Have you had a look at the "Stretch and flex" forum?

I walk 30 to 40km per week - and do a little body-weight exercise, and some stretches.

Weight loss is not all about motivation and masochism - if you "slim smart" it is not so hard!

Many of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hi S11m thanks for pointing me to Stretch and Flex. Also advice on diet. I have poor appetite at the mo , may be the meds I am on for Lupus so eating very bland food. The BMI is what I am worried about, 29.5 need to get that down. I weigh 10st 7lbs
