Start weight 68.5kg. End of week 1 69.4kg. Went for 3 x 30 min runs and cycled about 1 hour. Haven't been counting calories as lots of our food is home cooked and not easy to measure. Healthy though. Did have cake one day, but hoped that wouldn't make any difference. I was obviously proved wrong! This is harder than I thought...

That’s frustrating. But don’t give up!
Counting calories isn’t that difficult, it just takes a little getting used to. I (and many here) use an app called MyFitnessPal that does all the calculations. Aside from that, you just have to get a kitchen scale.
I also cook most of our meals from scratch and it is not a problem. Only eating out or having someone else cook for you is.
Some of the things you have eaten may contain more calories than you would have thought. I know I was shocked to see how many calories a portion of pasta or rice contains.
Counting calories is a very educational process. Good luck!
Have to admit I never counted calories just watched portion sizes and kept to minimum anything that wasn’t obviously good ie odd glass wine or low cal treats. Monitored my cheese intake as tended to eat a lot of. Sometimes the weight increase can just be leftover from week before, I’ve gains but overall trend is in just over a year I’ve lost just over 4 1/2 stone. Seems to be settling but it’s been lifestyle food changes that worked for me. It’s finding what works for you, it maybe counting & tracking but it might be portion sizes and food changes, or combination 😉 but it can be done 🎉
Congrats on your weight loss Aussieblues and also for finding a way of losing weight without cal counting (a nirvana for many ).
I'm not sure if you're thinking of becoming a part of this forum but tagging in an administrator moreless just in case
Well done for starting to care about your health and as OW48 has mentioned, you've made a good move by coming here.
If you're going to be counting calories then run the NHS BMI calculator to acquire a calorie range specific to you.
Whilst exercise generally helps our body be healthy, be aware that weight loss is 80-90% food management so if you get that wrong, no sensible amount of exercise is going to help,
PippiRuns has pointed out that counting calories, even for homemade meals will become quite straightforward with a bit of practice.
One piece of cake over a week would not have made any difference in the scheme of things and many people here will include cake or similar in their weekly menus.
Good luck!
Welcome to the group. One thing I do is try and work out how many calories I'm eating when something has been cooked from scratch..if you can not weigh it use portion control with your hands and fingers as a guide .that may help , I do both and sometimes dived the ingredients by 2 or 4 depends on whose eating say 400 gram pack 5% mince steak between 4 people 100 gram each get cal from online calculator . Loads of apps out there
Hi, Homemadepopcorn , welcome.
Many of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
