First week over and have lost 7lbs it has been a lot easier than I thought it would be, I have given up potatoes, pasta, bread and have cut down on red wine, 1 glass a day instead of 3 as the doctor suggested I only hope the weight will keep falling off.

First week
Hi and welcome, Brian
It looks as if you've got off to a flying start!
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Well done BrianO that's fantastic 7lbs lost in your first week. Good luck with week 2 and keep up the good work.
Would you like a 7lb badge?
Well done. I gave up those things as well in October - haven't missed them much. I fill up on veg and lean protein like fish and chicken. Easiest diet I have done as I don't calorie count and I am not hungry. Keep going!
Hi I am wondering if you can stay off these things forever? Don't forget you need some carbohydrates for energy and it's often what you put with them which is the problem instead such as loading jacket potatoes with butter or cheese. Good luck. x
I do not know if I can or want to but as long as the weight keeps coming off I will keep trying. No doubt I will have them as a treat every now and again.
I think that it is fine to stay off carbs like bread, pasta, potatoes, rice particularly white . I have spoken to several doctors and a qualified nutritionist. The foods are just fillers. I fill up on veg particularly green veg. I do eat some root veg like butternut squash and sweet potato but he sugar content is high. I have a friend who is a diabetic who eats in a similar way following advice she has been given. I think if people want to eat whole grain versions if the carb food then that is much better, for me at the moment I am fine not eating them at all (I have the very occasional sandwich maybe once a month if I am out somewhere and I have the odd potato if I am having Sunday lunch somewhere)
Well done BrianO
Clearly you've found the right formula for you and that's wonderful, I also have given up on carb rich starch foods (white flour and potatoes) and replaced with fruit, veg, nuts, seeds. Oh my word what a huge positive impact it's had.
Good luck and keep letting us know your progress
Wow! 7lb in a week, you're going great guns! How are you managing without potatoes, pasta and bread? What do you use as substitutes? Have you increased your exercise levels? Keep up the good work!
