I just joined this site and am in need of help in navigating my way around. also have some other questions: what does NHS stand for? I also went to the NHS calculator to put in wt, etc, and it would not let me put in my wt to calculate the calories. in surfing around I discovered a 'Tuesdays Trimmers' group. I would like to join that one, as I have been weighing in at home on my own and recording my weight daily, but especially on Tuesdays, so how do I go about joining that group. I would like to report my weight for this past Tuesday if possible. I am rather confused on how to navigate thru all of this.

The Tuesday Trimmers weigh in is open from 9p.m. on Monday to 9p.m. on Tuesday, UK time, so you can join it next Tuesday and give all your information then. The main aim, though, is to support each other, rather than just posting our weights, and if you take some time to reply to others, you'll soon get to know them and feel part of the team.
NHS stands for National Health Service, the UK system for delivering universal health care.

I tried again to enter my weight, I start to put my weight in - which is 154 lbs and each time it puts in 13 and won't let me delete it or put in the 154. I have tried it several times. So I went to another weight loss calculator and this is what it came up with : for my height - 4 feet 9" - to lose 1 lb a week, my calorie intake can't be more than 1,178 calories and to lose 2 lbs a week I can only eat 678 calories a day!
The NHS BMI calculator works in stones, or kgs. Your weight is 11st.
For moderately active - 30 - 60 mins exercise per week, your allowance would be 1269 - 1632 calories. However, I believe it would be better for you to watch what you eat, rather than how much you eat. Please read the information in the links I gave you.
It won't let me put pounds in there. It just puts the number 13 in there. when you say moderate exercise of 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per week, do you mean per week or do you mean per day? Because I exercise on my elliptical machine 30 minutes every day - 7 days a week. and I haven't missed one day since I started. But I have come to the conclusion that exercise is not helping me one bit to lose weight. because I have been doing it for over 8 months now and it hasn't helped at all to lose weight. I am hoping it is doing good in general for health, but it doesn't do anything for wt. loss for me anyway.
I have told you that the calculator uses stones and you are 11 stone. If you're exercising for 30 mins per day, then your daily calorie allowance is 1388 - 1785.

You are correct to believe that exercise is not very important for weight loss, but is very important for health and fitness, especially as we age.
That would be “high exercise “ so even more calories a day. Try it out... I used to do 1100 calories and really struggled but have done well on 1800! You are right exercise isn’t great for losing weight for a lot of people, but I found when I switched to low carb high fat eating, and my body switched to burning fat rather than carbs for fuel, I did better and now I find exercise really helps in both steady weight loss and maintaining plus I feel a lot better. Surf around and you’ll see a lot on LCHF.
