I'm New Here

fridaynightmovies profile image

Just joined this site. I just stumbled on this site and thought I'd give it a try. Been struggling with losing weight for years. Want to lose 40 more lbs by Feb 1. I am down 10 lbs from my highest. Had lost 15, but gained back 5. I've been doing Intermittent Fasting for at least 9 months now (maybe more (Skipping Breakfast) but actually, it doesn't help me lose weight. It makes me feel better, but does nothing for weight loss. I tried omad (one meal a day for a few days, but just couldn't do it. But it seems that is the only way I will be able to lose weight. So I need help. I am only 4' 9" so, I can't eat many calories - Have to eat practically nothing to lose weight.

Welcome fridaynightmovies :)

You've come to a brilliant forum where you will find endless support from friendly helpful people.

If at all possible, try to be open minded about different ways of doing things. Many people do start off here in a kind of 'stuck' mode and it can help to at least pose questions to ourselves whether that's the case.

A couple of pointers from your post that you may find helpful. Your weight loss goal is ambitious and would require you to lose weight at a rate that is likely to cause problems. Setting time based goals can be problematical. It can take only a momentary lapse to make us feel like we've failed and for us to give up.

I appreciate that you are shorter and will need less calories and as a starting point, have you run the NHS BMI calculator which will provide you with a specific calorie range.

Good luck, you can do this :)

thanks, I have done calculators before, but will try this one, and that is how I have discovered I have to practically eat 'nothing' to get results. On a regular and tall sized person, they can get away with eating normal amounts of food, but it doesn't work for us short people! the food has no where to go! it is sooooooooooo frustrating! And to think at one time I was 'under weight - was even turned down to donate blood because I was under the required 110 pounds! Not anymore!

I can understand your frustration but many people have come here thinking there is no way forward when that truly isn't the case. There's always a reason and weight loss should be 'mostly' a pleasant experience and hopefully rarely a hardship.

I can't really respond yet until you acquire that calorie range and compare it to what your standard input is. As a related aside, how about using the Daily Diary to get feedback from everyone on a daily basis.

However, if it turns out you've been eating too little then this can readily lead to an inward spiral, where the body changes it's metabolism to compensate for being 'starved'. People then eat less in order to see any weight loss and the cycle continues.

Like I say, until we have some solid information, that is only a theory.

I'm only 5ft and got a decent calorie allowance using the BMI checker

Hi, fridaynightmovies , welcome.

Many of us here find that what works is a combination of Intermittent Fasting (IF) and the Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) See:

If you eat practically nothing you won't loose weight your body goes into starvation mode and holds on to the fat. So daft as it sounds you may need to eat more. If doing calories work out your allowance and work to top end of it or try the LCHF plan a lot on here swear by it
