Hello, I have just joined. After weighing myself yesterday for the first time in ages I am a whopping 19st. I suppose I have been in denial about my weight, so I’m her for tips, advice and encouragement really. I want to live a healthy lifestyle, I’m a chocoholic who loves takeaways... hence the reason I’m nearly 20st. How do I not give in to my urges! I have no will power

Welcome Yonce
The answer to the question is, make small changes, if you eat chocolate every day, then drop it down to 4 days a week and then drop it some more. You will also find that if you add good fats into your eating plan that they will fill you up and over time you won't want the chocolate the same. The fats help you not to crave sweet stuff. So add full fat cheese, greek yoghurt, fattier meats and cook with olive oil.

Hi Yonce and welcome.
Things have moved on over the years so you may find the reading that lucigret has supplied you as surprising. Do take your time to read it, as most of us thought we knew what eating well was and it turns out that this hasn't been the case and why we've ended up here at all.
Ask as many questions as you've got and there'll always be plenty of support to help answer them.
Good luck!

Here's something else to read on the subject of choccie urges etc well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013...
Hi Yonce!
I'm new too - hello!
It's always so difficult isn't it when you step on the scales almost hoping that somehow you'll not have gained any weight, even though you know deep down that you can't really have avoided it! I've done it many times! Recently I felt that something no longer felt right and needed some kind of confirmation that it's time to make a change, low and behold - I weighed myself and yes I had put on even more weight.
The important thing to remember is that you WILL have takeaways and chocolate in your future! Hurrah. This is not the end to the foods you like. But instead you're taking a step to support and nourish your body. I find it helpful, instead of thinking to myself "I must not eat this today, I must not eat that today, I must stick to 1,600 calories (or whatever the limit), I instead try talking to myself as if I'm trying to gain something. So I say "I must make sure I eat a substantial amount of calories today, and try to hit my target. I must include a variety of carbs, fats, proteins, vitamins etc. I need to ensure that I eat when I am hungry. I will not make myself eat something when my stomach says it's full".
I don't know if that will help you, but I prefer to think of it as coaxing myself towards something, rather than depriving myself. Then I feel like I'm on a road to recovery from my disordered, emotional eating - even though that recovery is to lose weight.
I hope you find your stride. Remember, you are a worthy individual who deserves to live healthily and unafraid of food. x
