Advice for a beginner?

Hi, I’m 18 years old and have decided to start the new year right! I’m overweight by 2 stone (Im 5’6 and 11st 7) and I’m looking for some tips! My calorie range is 1200kcal

My first question is, does anyone know of some really simple meal plans as that’s what I’m struggling with most? This is what I’m eating at the moment;

- Breakfast

I’m having plain porridge alongside green tea.

- lunch

For work I’m eating 3 small slices of chicken breast with a little salad which includes; lettuce, cucumber, onion and bell pepper.

- Dinner

A small portion of wholemeal pasta with Passata and bell pepper

- Snack

Baby apple slices (5)

And to add I’m drinking 2 litres of water a day since I never used to drink enough - to the point where my family call me a ‘camel’.

Hi and welcome, kirstywoods3 :)

At first glance, you look as if you're eating way too little and you've removed all the fat from your diet. My advice to you is to log onto our daily diary, where you can get great menu ideas from others and get help with yours. Firstly though, get your calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins.

Hi Kirsty, whats working for me is keeping a food diary. I write down everything be it good or bad & what the calories are. Its a pain at first but you soon build up your own data base. I can look over past days & weeks & work out my food plan, its like having a menu. I have lost 3st since sept but put on about 4lbs over the xmas period. Iam getting back on track today.

Hi @ma65 I’ve got an app that counts them and I’ve been keeping it up to date, my struggle is finding meals! I don’t want salad everyday haha. Any recipes that you love?

Hello and a very warm welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Gracie 😊

That is a sudden gain, have you spoken to,your GP? Has he done any blood tests? This is vital before you embark upon any kind of restricted eating.

However, if he has told you it is safe to try to lose weight, then we can help you. Please take a look at the Welcome Newbie Post for advice about how the forum works and all the things we have on offer. Read it carefully as it has lots of important information, healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

The best advice I can give is have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure. I can’t emphasise this enough, keeping an accurate calorie count is vital for learning about where we can cut back on calories.

A very quick look at your meals shows quite a high carbohydrate content, please read this post about the effects of insulin and other hunger hormones on fat loss healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... (Ignore the title, it applies to anyone)

Best wishes and have a good first week. Please just ask if you have any questions

Indigo 😊
