Wish i had NEVER had my gallbladder out. It has caused my life to be none existent. I cannot eat out in cafes or other places. have any treats fast foods or steak and chips as a treat. I have smoothies, organic oats and musuli. Bananas and fresh lemon as a drink in hot water. Sometimes can force a small piece of salmon and mushed veg down. Am ok with a small helping of pasta or tuna in spring water. But everything taste bland. Use one cal cooking spray when use to have eggs, now gone off them and appetite terrible. Have to snack on rice crackers soft ones and very low fat spead cheese spread very thinly. Trial and error. Sorry if this sounds a lot it is not as a variety of foods every day, day in day out. Tears writing this as cant go out in case I need the toilet as wont use public toilets to sit on and need to be near my own. I went down to 7 stone and looked like the walking dead. My friend makes smothies with fruit and veg and freezes them in bags ready for convienience for me. Also got chronic COPD and severe pelvic pain being investigated. Was given ensure plus to put on weight and give me nutrition but they are filled with not natural stuff although without them would be on the toilet more and would not have put a stone back on in a year as each drink has 350 cals in them. I am at a loss what else I can have as terrified of anything that has fat in. Never eat packaged foods. Had heinz beans sometimes and some go ahead biscuits if dipped in tea to soften. Any ideas what else I can try as now due to funding they have lowered my ensure to one a day and dont feel like eating much apart from the above and some days its just one ensure and a banana. I have lost 3kg in a month since ensure dropped to one :-( anything that disagrees with me goes straight through me and i mean may have a minute to reach the toilet. Thank you xx

Hi spiritinthesky,

I'm sorry to hear about the terrible time you're having, but I have to make sure you understand that this is a peer to peer support group for weight loss and none of us is medically qualified to help you.

I'm at a loss to understand why you have been only been given a high cal replacement, rather than looking into the cause of your dilemma, which sounds to me like dumping syndrome.

Have you tried an elimination diet, so that you can ascertain those food items that definitely have an adverse effect on you and can then start building a nourishing diet, that will stimulate your appetite, rather than your bowel and get you back to normal function? healthline.com/nutrition/el...

In classic dumping syndrome, it's sugar, especially fructose that goes straight through, which would mean stopping the fruit and looking to replace that with meat and veg.

It make take a while to get to a happy place, but you've suffered for two years, so investing time now seems like a good idea. I would also go back to your GP and say you need further investigation and support from them and other healthcare providers, in order to regain your health and well-being.

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you yep dumping seems to be correct. Going to take a look at the link and do some research and get back to the GP and insist that the specialists sort it out. Thank you for help. Kind regards x

I had my gallbladder removed about 11 years due to recurring gallstones and initially I had the same problem. I can’t comment on your other possible health problems but I do know from experience that you cannot eat high fat foods after your op. Not only did I experience an upset tum after eating something like fish and chips but I also felt the crippling pain that I had when I had gallstones. I avoided very high fat foods for about 18 months after the op to let my system settle down and these days anything high fat or deep fried is a rare treat, which is the way it should be gallstones or not. As stated above an exclusion diet may be useful to try, something like FODMAP but this needs to be done under medical supervision. Good luck with sorting it out.

Thanks for the reply. I cannot even have treats and have eliminated everything that caused me the same crippling pain but with a rush to a toilet. Try some mac fries once only had about half the same portion and wham the stomach cramps lucky I was next to the supermarket with toilets. Just feel like I am not absorbing nutrients like the body should. Gastro doctors have seen just say stick to a low fat diet yet cant even have ice cream that is only 320 cals a tub, a few spoons and off I have to go to the rest room. I use to enjoy a glass of wine on a weekend now dare not even go near a drop. Would love a steak and other meats but even mince has to be extra lean, cant have pork, lamb, beef burgers and so on. Not sure what a Food plan is but surely there is more variety to what I can have? Sorry you went and are going through alike symptoms. Seems to me the gallbladder is there for a reason if I had know would NEVER had it out. Thanks for the help appreciated. Kind regards. xx
