I’ve always said that achieving weight loss, getting fitter and healthier is a mental challenge as much as anything else. This week I’ve achieved a major milestone. I’ve wanted to go swimming 🏊♂️ for a very long time but as a consequence of sinister acts that I suffered when I was a boy I’ve had a fear of drowning and swimming pools. This week I overcame that fear. This week I went swimming twice with my Support Worker. I’m now planning on going swimming twice weekly as part of my healthier lifestyle. Tonight I go to bed happy. Happy that as a survivor of serious historical abuse I have a brighter future ahead of me. If you’ve been affected by this post please seek support. Thank you 😊

That is really great news, Fitter-At-50 😊 I'm so glad for you. It must feel wonderful and a weight lifted, literally. I hope you carry on with your swimming 🏊 and enjoy it, don't let what happened to you stop you from living your life 😊
What a fantastic story. I had similar as my brother drowned and even now it takes a few attempts to swim in the sea but once in I actually feel I have achieved so much . You seem a fighter and our past has to be just that as we can't change it .Seems like you have a good rapport with your support worker too . Could anyone else join you as many need encouragement and someone to go with ? This may be another way to sustain attendance . Your story is motivating.
Hi Fitter-At-50

That's a life changing achievement, well done Fitter-At-50! Now you can start enjoying swimming again. Seeking help can often be difficult as it means facing up to something but you have showed us it can be done. Congratulations to you and thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I’m taking one day at a time.
What an inspiring story. You must be so proud of yourself not only are you losing weight but your more fitter too something which can be overlooked. As someone who was abused both as a child (NOT MY FAMILY) and in an adult relationship it is always nice hear about that.
Thank you for honouring us with your story and your victory as well. You are incredibly brave and your story is a wonderful read.
