Diet groups - which is best?

Sorry if this has been discussed previously, search isn't loading on phone / laptop.

Story - I need for health reasons to permanently change diet and lose around 5 stone. Need support as I'm weak on my own so wanting a diet with support group.

Question - Weight Watchers or Slimming World?

Both in my local town with regular meetings etc both seem around the same costs etc

What's people's personal experiences if any?

Hi AwolChizza - why not use a support group that costs you absolutely nothing and has all the same things as a SW or WW??

For me - this is the best support group going!! It's certainly worked for me!

Well Hidden , you present a very good argument there, its more the face to face interaction and support I'm looking for (don't get me wrong, ill still be using this place too)

Hi and welcome, AwolChizza :)

I have to agree with Hidden . I was a member of both the clubs you've mentioned, plus a couple of others and ended up morbidly obese. It was this community that saved me.

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

The thing that went wrong there, Lytham, was that there wasn't a space between your last word (link) and the link you copied :)

Oh thanks I wondered why it did that ?

I have been to WW and did quite well as it’s a calorie counted plan I believe. SW has too many carbohydrates for me. Judging by the numbers of failed SW members we see on here, it doesn’t teach you long term changes in eating habits, which is the key to permanent success.

However, you could save the weekly fee and buy new clothes or another treat if you use this forum instead. We have everything they do, food advice, emotional support, regular weighing, we are open 24/7 and it’s free! 😊

Hi AwolChizza and welcome to this group. Been to WW and SW in the past. I didn’t do too bad at first with S.W but put it all back on and more. Making different meals for other half and myself so that was really hard. You don’t need a diet you need to focus on a healthy lifestyle as this is for life not while you pay to go to a class. Why pay when you can read the NHS 12 week plan free for yourself. You can get your BMI calorie range and start planning your meals. I still after over 13 months plan, write down, count calories and weigh everything out. I even took my digital kitchen scales to my daughters for Xmas dinner and weighed my meat and veg etc out before it all went in serving dishes. We didn’t have xmas pudding...no one actually liked it so some of us had raspberries Greek fat free yoghurt and a meringue as a treat and the rest had apple crumble and custard.no one was deprived and we all enjoyed our Xmas dinner. I do have a treat, the odd piece of cake , calorie counted from Tesco and a muller light chocolate fix every day counted in. Must admit I rarely exercise , swim twice a week when weather and pool warmer and go for the odd walk round the block but it is working as you can see I am 4st 5 lbs lighter.

I did all this for health reasons too and so far have halved my cholesterol and my blood pressure was right down last time it was checked. You don’t need to waste your money , save it for a treat when you get to your first 7lb loss on a new item of clothing. You can do this and with the brilliant support from members of this group who are here because they are going through the same things as you are. Give it a try and see how you get on. Join one of the weigh in days you will get to know others doing the same day and you can get advice and support from them too. Good luck to you Sue 🥰🥰🥰

Just joined this group and saw your message. I personally think that different clubs suit different people. I joined slimming world in 2010 to lose last of the baby weight. Got to target in 6 months by staying at the group discussion. Still counted as being in the healthy BMI range but know I would like to now lose 7lb and doing it by slimming world meals and exercise and hopefully advice on this site.
