I am using a Samsung galaxy S7 and cannot get the calorie counter to do anything, I put in carrot press go nothing happens. I even input noodle as the example and still nothing.

This appears to be a glitch in the NHS site, if you can it needs reporting. In the meantime you can either just use google (search calories in xxx) or there are apps you can download such as MyFitnessPal there are very good

I use My Fitness Pal and thats a winner for me! Theres loads of food in their memory and theres a barcode scanner to input your own, plus you can make meals and thats makes it easier to input later on if its something you regularly eat ❤️
