I’m not new but have been very lazy about losing weight. One problem is being retired I always seem to be away either on holiday in nice hotels or staying with family. This means certainly in the hotels its difficult ( impossible) for me not to eat delicious breakfasts, I am in Italy at the moment so I hope when I return pounds heavier I have eight weeks before Christmas to try and lose dometh8ng. Can you lose a stone in eight weeks? That would really give me a boost

It is possible to lose 1 stone in 8 weeks, but impossible to know whether you could lose a stone in 8 weeks. Weight loss isn't linear and each of us loses weight at different rates.
It would be better for you to concentrate on healthy living, be that at home, or away, as delicious breakfasts don't need to put on weight, or halt weight loss

When I was on holiday recently, I found the breakfasts gave me the best choices e.g. scrambled egg with smoked salmon and mackerel (still waiting for someone to bring me that at home but it doesn’t seem to be happening), Greek yoghurt, seeds and berries, cold meats and cheese, something different every day. I just avoided bread and pastries.
I'm retired too Avisford and go away often. But I try to ensure that I just eat a regular breakfast - just because some of these hotels offer so much choice and everything is laid out - doesn't mean we have to eat everything in sight!
Once upon a time, I would have, but I've been on this journey for over 6 years now, so I have learned that this is behaviour I have to change.
When at home I choose not to have breakfast - but have my first meal of the day between noon and 1pm. This won't suit everyone. Whilst away in Edinburgh a few months ago, we stayed at a Premier Inn and I didn't pay for breakfast there. Instead, we would leave the hotel about 10am and make our way to whatever we were going to visit that day, and start off with an early lunch. That really made a difference to the weight gain, as I was having just two meals a day as I would normally at home.
I am now in a very good place with food where I have come to realise that I will never be able to eat as I once did... if I want to stay at my new (lower) weight. But instead of resenting this, I am at peace! It makes things much easier.
For me, the fact I managed to crack this weight loss thing after many years of "trying" has been changing how I behave around food and accepting that nothing is denied, but if don't want to undo all of my very hard work to lose over 4 stone, I do have to limit the quantity I eat.
A hotel cooked breakfast can be paleo (or LCHF) and, if it is the main meal of the day, can be part of a weight loss diet... even 8/16 if you eat nothing in the evening?
Like you, pineapple, I only have a slimming biscuit (50 calories) and coffee at breakfast. Then I have a very simple lunch between noon and 1pm. But this is good because I know I can eat a satisfying dinner with a dessert of fruit and yogurt And a supper! I am not hungry in the morning but always hungry in the evening! My weight loss is not record breaking but it is slowly and steadily going down. I too am retired!
I find if I eat breakfast, I am starving by around 10am! If I go with just tea and coffee, I can manage quite happily until 12/12.30pm... it's as if eating something wakes up my stomach (which it probably does!). I prefer to let it have a little lie in
We are all different and I know that a there is a lot of stuff out there that states breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But I am just not hungry then! I am a night owl and so always want more to eat in the evenings. I think my whole system is only just ticking over (if that) first thing in the morning!
Hi Avisford, a stone in 8 weeks would be great, wouldn't it?! I think if I was contemplating that for myself it would have to be limb loss surgery lol and I am just not willing to go that far! Personally I think we are all different and you have to find what works for you. I am on the slow and steady, fewer carbs, smaller portions route and although some weeks there's not much progress it is all going in the right direction. Welcome here and maybe don't go too crazy with the beautiful food over there but still enjoy for now. Healthy eating to us all!
