Hello all, I am josh, I'm 19. After finding out past year that i have anxiety and depression. I started to isolate myself from my friends and family and started to eat a lot more food (the bad stuff) and stopped being active like I was and gaine weight,
At the start of this year I decided that enough was enough and I starred to get help and since then have started to not isolate myself as much as I did and have started to do bike ridding (what I love) but I need help with the food and diet side of everything.
Any help would be most grateful
thanks
Josh

Hi Josh19997 and welcome! chin up darlin' you can do this!! I waited til I was 49 (now) to do anything proper about my weight gain. I am determined now to do what I want to do which is be healthy. I know if I just eat healthy I can lose weight but for me it is all about being healthy. you are young and can do anything in exercise you want so this is gonna be good for you! I have faith and if you falter, just jump on here and we will get you back on track I promise.
Have a look at "The Welcome Newbies" post under Pinned Posts on the right hand side of this page, for an introduction to this site. The 12 week plan gives you guidelines on healthy eating and dieting.
Good luck Josh. Glad to hear you have got some help with your problems and I hope this is the start of a healthier and happier time for you.
Hi joshua19967 well done on pulling yourself together and getting help to aid your anxiety that is a huge step. Isolating yourself is one of the worst things that goes hand in hand with anxiety and it is good you are starting a form of exercise getting you out and about eventually maybe you may gain the confidence to join a cycle club or find a cycle buddy. I am on the 12 week plan and it is very good I am now on week 8 I have a lot to loose but hopefully will get there. Download the weekly sheets, keep a track on calories, exercise ( get a fitness tracker or pedometer to help) stay on here for advice, read posts there are some very inspiring ones, hope you have the support of your family. As you loose weight your confidence will flourish. Well done Josh you have made a brilliant first step and all on this forum will help you in your journey because together we are stronger!! Good luck. Bev
Hey Josh, great to see you here and its a fantatstic forum.
I really like using a free app called myfitnesspal which is a really great one for recording your food, counting your calories for you, letting you search for foods, you can even import recipes off the net and it works out the calories for you. It doesn't have all those annoying ads, its really useful and like I said its free!
Its the most popular diet and fitness app in the world.
I also like using a fitbit but if you are a biker it probably won't be your first pick.
Just remember small steps and keep at the exercise, its great for your depression
Welcome! I can see people have already told you about the Pinned posts area, and I hope you'll join in with anything you like the look of in the forum. Maybe join our Monday group weigh-in sessions, if you fancy a weekly weigh-in? The NHS 12 week plan is really good, and hopefully you've had a read of the Welcome Newbie post by now - and you're finding your way around the forum ok.
Wishing you a great weekend and hope to see you around and about in here. It's a friendly and supportive place, as you can tell by all the great replies you've had already!
I'm so sorry to hear you are suffering from anxiety and depression I too have suffered and its awful I suffered very badly from anxiety and found it hard to leave the house My husband bought me a bike as I didn't drive then it changed my life the exercise really helped so it's great you are cycling and you enjoy it You probably know sugary things are bad for anxiety maybe that might help you knowing it would lessen your symptoms if you cut down? Food was very comforting for you when you were going through such a horrible time I'm sure with the cycling you will start to lose weight and that will spur you on I wish you loads of luck getting better and you WILL in time and get your old life back Cat 33
