the eat fat, get thin

Hi everyone, after watching researched online documentaries, I have to say we have been brainwashed for years over which food to eat & more importantly not eat. Saturated fats are bad for you, keep your cholesterol down etc etc I could write a book, however after a lot of careful research, listening & learning it turns out what we have been told is so wrong, LowFat is BAD for you, Cereals are bad for you - there is more money spent on advertising breakfast cereals than what goes into making them, in some occasions 64% sugar, yikes & you know what's worse than all, it all makes so much sense. Big pharmaceuticals are ruling what we eat, when we eat the things bad for us we need medication to solve the problem, NO what we need is to eat correctly & ditch the pills, it makes so much sense, I don't know if you've noticed recently however the price of juice/soda has decreased (its BAD for you), the price of plant based foods, fruit & veg has increased, why? Its because they don't want you to buy what's good for you, they want you to buy what is Bad for you, so you need medicine to solve it, i.e. gluten allergies, IBS, colitis, diabetes, C, I could go on.... Obesity is one of biggest health problems in our society WORLDWIDE, go for Nutrition & Lifestyle changes ditch the crap, if you eat meat & dairy have it once a week & ditch drinking juice/soda laced with sugars & other names hidden in the ingredients that you wouldn't put in your mouth if you knew what they actually were, research & nutrition is the way forward (my thoughts entirely) & so my journey is still going strong, Im learning all the way however Im listening to my body now & how it reacts to foods, any reaction at all & I don't eat it again. I switched to a plant based diet on 1st January & I haven't looked back, its taken a bit of adjusting but boy do I feel so much better for it, long may it continue oh yes & the big part for me is my IBS has changed, not had pain for 4 months now & counting. The meals Im making are tasty & I haven't once missed what I used to eat, even crisps have Milk in them do you ever ask your self why?, I did.

Quote of the day - Little by Little a little becomes a lot

Have a good day everyone & happy researching - The Food Resolution online is running for 2 more days catch it if you can, you will learn so much, Im still learning every day its like being back at school

Really good post Jackie,

I couldn't agree more with what you say.

It can be hard work to convince people that some fats are good for us and the 'diet' foods out there are definitely not good for us. The reason most of us are here, of a certain age, is because we have grown up 'believing' all the rubbish that has been told to us over the last decades. When ever I tried to diet before, I only ever had low fat this and low fat that and no it never really worked. You loose weight, it is not sustainable and you are hungry and you eat more and on goes the weight again and most the time more of it. We really need to get this message out there.

Also whole heartedly agree about medication. I am fortunate not to be on any, but my Husband is and it is something I am looking into now.

Have to say, my IBS is almost non existent now that I have changed my diet. Only have occasional flare ups.

It's all good news, just need to get others to believe us :)

Well said Jackie8! We have followed all the advice on low fat foods (which taste dreary!) but happily consumed starchy sugary foods thinking they were OK. The food and drug industry have been rubbing their hands all these years because (as Dr Atkins had scientifically proven many years ago), sugar promotes insulin which screws all the body biochemistry (particularly the lipids) and so we need statins. No wonder the poor man has been maligned, the industry didn't want us to know that their foods and consequent need for drugs was actually causing us harm and making us fat.

Large industries have more money and hence more shout to say what is "good" for us, they have drowned out the voices of common sense and research for too long now. I'm not a believer in conspiracy theories, but I do think this is one that needs recognising and fighting with a consumer backlash.

A book called "Pure White and Deadly"; (I wish I could remember the author) written in the 1970s pointed out the health issues of eating too much processed sugar. It was maligned by the industry who responded with "eat low fat." It made sense to many because "eat fat and get fat" seemed sort of obvious. What they didn't explain was that the human body is not just a bucket for food. It processes food in an array of complex chemical reactions and what sort of foods is it designed for? Naturally occurring foods; vegetables, fruit, unprocessed cereals and meat (protein). The white sugar (sucralose) of today was not readily available until the early 1800s. Honey (glucose) isn't naturally available because the bees protect it. The sugar that we eat in vast quantities now was never easily available to humans until well after the industrial revolution. It is a consequence of progress and it clearly isn't a good thing. Nature has got it right (again).

Indeed. I think most people don't realise how much of the "food" on supermarket shelves is manufactured rubbish that simply couldn't have existed in our grandparents' day. That's especially true of all the holier-than-thou hemp-packaged low-this-and-that diet foods, which are mostly full of ingredients that make you fat and ill (until recently, US manufacturers were able to get a USDA stamp on this trash "proving" that it was good for you).

Fortunately, more and more people are starting to realise they're being duped. I think things had to hit rock-bottom before people started to ask themselves: wait, what? Are you guys seriously telling us that good old meat and vegetables are BAD for us, and stuff made in a factory from flour, soy, sugar and chemicals is somehow HEALTHY?

Doctors are rebelling against the official stance because they know from hard experience with their patients that it's plain wrong. Lots of high-quality publications are on the market explaining in non-technical terms why the low-fat approach doesn't work, and what people can do instead. 50 years after Ansel Keys got this mass hysteria going, proper science is finally starting to win out over pseudoreligious dogma, politically motivated grandstanding, and the needs of big business.
