B12 deficiency

Does anyone know anything about B12 deficiency Ive has no loss at all last week even though I was very good no cheating at all, this week I have continued to eat healthy however I have also been told that I have pernicious anemia which is a B12 deficiency, I started my loading vaccinations on Monday and I am due to have my third injection tomorrow after that there are three more loading injections which I am told will correct my B12 levels, ongoing I will have an injection every three months. I am wondering if the deficiency has had any effect on me gaining weight and also if it is stopping me from losing weight. Any advice would be very welcome.

Hi AndreaT1968

My sister has pernicious anemia but she has many other medical health issues, she is underweight constantly.

I am no expert, but of your seeing your health professional tomorrow for another jab.. maybe ask them while you are there... I hope you get the right levels to regain the right balance and enjoy good health going forwards..

Cheering you on 🎉🎉🎉

I have been using (though have misplaced) B12 skin patches. B12 is better absorber via the skin than the gut. I'm sure injections would also be perfectly absorbed, probably better than the skin patches I have used.

You can get B12 skin patch from ebay and I found them super powerful and relaxing. B12 is important for one's nerves.

Hope that help.

Dear Andrea, I don't think lack of B12 will affect your weight. If you become anaemic however, the anaemia will make you very tired and lethargic. Correcting your B12 deficiency and preventing anaemia is likely to give you more energy and make you feel more awake and engaged with day to day activities. Hope this helps

I have B12 injections as due to Crohn's disease don't absorb it in my gut + I can't blame my weight on vit B12 levels! I've been steadily losing weight now since January (18lbs) through sensible eating and increased exercise. You need to create a 7700kcal deficit / week to lose 1kg and exercise is key, not just diet. It'll take a few weeks for you to notice the difference after the injections at first but then you'll have more energy to get active & you'll feel the benefit.

So sorry Andrea darling, this is a truly mizzy condition. Other advice excellent so far but also consider the following foods taken every day for a while, and let's hope these suggestions don't make you squirm like and oyster under lemon but perk up with enthusiasm: Marmite, on savoury bickies - delicious and no butter or marge needed; broccoli, which is chock full of iron and other green goodies, and - wait for it - liver. Don't buy the piggy or beef stuff which is coarse and full of yucky rubber bands - buy calf or lamb's liver, sauté lightly in a little olive oil and some yummy caramelised onions and then lightly boil or steam some lovely greens with salt and pepper. If you can stand the idea of this last, eat every day for two weeks - should do wonders. You can make a double quantity for several meals and it just tastes better and better every time you reheat (slowly in the oven). You also might be pleased to know that strawbobs are iron-rich, as are apricots, also - wait for it - red wine! Just a small glass a day should do you more good than harm, though there will of course be those who don't agree.... Good luck
