Hi am 45 years old and I have been battling my weight for as long as I can remember, I currently weigh 19 stone and I am 6 ft 2. I suffer from emotional eating and always have since a child ( bit of a rough childhood) . I also suffer from depression and low self-esteem which doesn't help, I have a wonderful wife and two lovely children I want to be a better husband and father to them , i know its the weight and depression holding me back . I have been on this road for to long and need to change , I have just been told I have a fatty liver which shocked me in to doing something. I love healthy food and enjoy exercise. Every time I start something gets in the way, I have completed couch to 5 k twice. Run a 10k love walking , swimming and hope to do triathlon at some stage. But I have injured my foot which doesn't help so I can't run which was helping me with my depression. Currently waiting for an injection in my foot, to help. I need a lot of motivation to keep me going , on my first week I have given up bread which I could quite happily eat a loaf, I have lost 4 pounds which I am pleased with. Has any one got any tips or advice to help me on my way I need lots of buddies.
Kindest regards
Shayne

What a shame about your foot and not being able to run. I kicked of my exercise regime with 30 mins on the wii today and plan to do this every day this week. Depression is a pain as it creeps into all aspects of your life. I had a bout of it this time last year and have to draw on my coping strategies almost daily still. I comfort eat and started to comfort spend. I am tackling both at the moment.
Good luck with your weight loss. Be positive, stay focussed, set yourself mini goals and mini rewards and don't beat yourself up if you don't achieve them but I'm sure you will.
Lots of luck. You'll get lots of support and tips here. I try to cut carbs and could easily eat a loaf of freshly baked bread so no crisps bread cakes etc pasta or potatoes. I just started running again. Try to do some exercise outdoors everyday and be gentle with yourself. It's about lifestyle change not diets. Think how proud your family will be.
In terms of exercise (you said you love it) then have you tried things which have low impact on your foot (I guess it depends what's the matter with it).
What about cycling (outdoor or spinning classes), or swimming maybe would be good prep for a triathlon ?
I have plantar fascia in my left foot. I love swimming and cycling but don't get the same high as I do running. Thanks for the kind words
Hi,
Unfortunate news about the foot , hope you are on the mend soon enough. If exercise is going down I would focus on diet.
One thing to look at is what you are drinking. I know when I started to properly look at my intake sugar in tea and drinking fruit juice were definitely the big ones.
Many thanks good tip, I drink neither tea or coffee and all my drinks are sugar free other than cranberry juice in the morning but that is no added sugar.
A useful trick I found for keeping to a healthy weight loss regime is breaking it down into manageable chunks, 5% in 8 weeks say, then 10% 😊 Also an eating plan that suits, I also like bread and am allowed it as I count calories. I am not 'on a diet' but am following an eating plan for life, my weight was also at a dangerous level but is now on the way down. I had an operation on my ankle and like you, inactivity exacerbated the weight gain, I swim when I can and have a mini cycle machine, and also do an adapted chair based exercise work out. Good luck, you can do this! 😊😊😊
