Hello Im Dianne and like most of us posting to this forum I am yet again on a weightless journey. Ive discovered that if I think about this process as a "diet" I will almost certainly sabotage myself, but I have lost nearly 2 1/2stone since Christmas and have been largely successfully losing weight every week. Everybody has a wobble and I have had two of a 1/2 lb, which I lost the following week and a third of a 4lb gain which I also concentrated hard and lost the following week. In a couple of weeks time I am off on a three week trip to Canada and am really quite concerned that I will have less control over how my food is prepared for my and the amount of fat used in its preparation. As we will be travelling quite a bit does anyone have any ideas as to how I keep things on track please?

Holiday planning
Hello dianne3011 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Very well done on your weight loss so far, that is a fabulous achievement and you should be very proud 😊
With regards to holidays, it's a difficult one. The best advice is to write down everything you eat, so at least you are still accountable. And try to be mindful, only eat when hungry and watch portion size. I am quite confident now at asking if I may take uneaten food away with me, even carry a small Tupperware box for the purpose. However, I am just back from 2 weeks away and I gained 3lbs inspite of all this, and we had loads of exercise too!! But one week later 2 of those 3 lbs are away so that the last piece of advice, get straight back to,it when you get home 😊
Anyway, here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you usually have a 'Newbie' badge, but ibe given you a 2 stone badge to reflect your success so far 😊
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
Two weeks away, and only a 3lb gain! I'd take that 😀
I think you should enjoy your holiday, but be mindful that you don't want to completely undo all of your hard work.... and as soon as you're back, don't jump straight onto the scales... a lot of the weight that you will see will be due to the long haul flight (causes fluid retention).
Instead, just get back to a healthy way of eating and weigh in after one week. Depending on the type of holiday you are taking, you may find that your activity levels increase (walking, etc). Maybe try limiting yourself to two meals a day - if you're staying in a hotel, have a good breakfast and skip lunch?
Enjoy your holiday and get back to it on your return 🙂
thanks Anna taking a tupperware box with me is a good idea. Im a type 2 diabetic but have due to my weightless got my blood sugar levels down to below the threshold and don't want to go back there. Also the time last year my BP was 200/120 and last week it was 131/75. I know that I will almost certainly bloat up on the flight as I often do but have the travel socks and will be wearing them as this will help my feet and ankles. Some foot exercises during the flight will help to I think, but the fact of the matter is that its quite difficult to move around much on a long haul flight. I am a bit worried about this as my late mother suffered several DVT's and my late father had a heart condition, that said it didn't stop them travelling to Australian several times so Im determined to not let it stop me !!
I have arthritis and walk up and down the aisles every hour, make the excuse you need the bathroom and go the long way!! Do a few leg exercises wherever you can, and you will walk miles at the airport either end 😊
Hi dianne3011 I find the eating out difficult when on holiday, but crossing the fish option with new potatoes or just veg should help you stay low in calories but do enjoy your holiday
Certainly the fish options sounds like a good idea, as for veggies, its probably going to be just salad as the Canadians, much like most Americans don't really seem to do veggies. When we were there last year I don't think I saw any veggies except salad even in the supermarkets!! Will have to make sure there is no butter on the potatoes and no dressing on the salad though. As this year is the 150 years celebration for Canada Im really looking forward to the holiday and hope to get lots of walking in too. thanks for your support
Hi Dianne
Enjoy your holiday , just try to eat healthy, one tip I've been given is to have a starter as a main. Just don't be afraid to ask for things without the extras
We were in Canada for Canada Day 3 years ago, we had an amazing time, and the Canadian people we met were so nice. Bet the 150 yr celebrations will be fantastic. I'm quite envious.
