Christmas....I'm not a humbug, honest

It's early Christmas morning as I write this. My family say I'm a humbug at this time of year. It's not true, it's just that I have an eating disorder and as there is a mountain of food in the house I know I will over eat and end up loathing myself for eating too much. Every year I tell myself not to do it but every year it's the same !!

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Jono_Molsley 😊

I have tremendous sympathy for you it’s a very difficult time of year for those of us with issues around food, you are most certainly not alone. I have been over two, years on this journey and still struggle, but it is getting easier. Could you perhaps decide now that 2018 will be the year you try to change your behaviour? Stick with us and we can help and support you with this 😊

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header and a link to the 12 week plan, so please take the time to read it carefully.

Wishing you all the best

Good morning Jono, I have had an eating disorder in the past, so I can understand. This time of year can be filled with dread. Everyone watching what you put in your mouth or not putting in your mouth. I think you have to be kind to yourself, enjoy spending time with others, all here for support.

This year all the chocolate gifts I have put in the garage freezer, so I can't touch.

I unfortunately my other half is ill. So popping over to See him about 9ish, then going to my sister there will be 14 including nieces and nephews. Then back to other half, then back to mine. Trying to keep everyone happy.

Any support re eating disorder, please message me.

Wishing everyone a fantastic day.

Welcome Jono. Now's your chance to change your journey's path.

Firstly, you'll be helping yourself a lot if you follow the link that Anna61 has provided you to the Newbie Club and reading everything there, including the additional links. A lot of reading before your xmas meal :(

A lot of us here find that keeping food diaries and also writing down what we're going to eat the next day, to be very helpful. Writing down what we've done and what we're going to do can make a big difference... you don't have to do it to the level of counting sprouts (but I used to :) )

Try and be realistic though, this is one day and you have many days ahead of you HERE to start to affect long term change. Do your best with what today has to offer you but don't get too down on yourself that it stops you from coming back here.

There has been no magic wand waving here and all of us have had good and bad days and will continue to have them. The ones that succeed are the ones that don't give up.

Families can be helpful and not helpful can't they, Jono?

You don't say if you want to lose weight or if it's just the Christmas period that's a real problem for you. If you are planning on losing weight going forward, as you'll have already seen there are people on this forum who have, or have had, an eating disorder. And I would say all of us are addressing something about our approach to food that has not been great, and looking to healthier approaches.

Don't beat yourself up about any slips over the next few days; it really is a short period of time out of 365 days in the year. You can then start making your plans for the rest of the year, and you'll get lots of encouragement here :)

Hi Jono

Part of dieting is learning when it is ok to enjoy a big meal and treats and when to cutback.

Earlier this year I had a meal with exwrens to mark our centenary. I panicked but friends on this site helped me to realise that it was ok Togo and enjoy a big feast with friends but then to put it into perspective by cutting back afterwards.

Good luck we are all routing for you.

A sincere thanks for your words of encouragement and support. Thank you also to everyone that responded to my post. I'm new to this forum and it's obvious that the community has kind and supportive people.

Christmas Day and today has been ok and although I did overeat I kept the guilt in perspective. Tomorrow though will see me eating healthy again.

I'm determined that my weight will reduce and my overeating issues will be kept in check.
