Lacking Motivation

Hi. I'm new to all this, so hoping I'll find inspiration. I am a 58 year old male, and following unusual presentations whilst at work yesterday I was blue lighted to hospital where I was initially seen by the stroke nurse. Following a C.T. scan and numerous tests , it was concluded that I had probably suffered a mini stroke.

I cycle and walk, but suffering with social anxiety find it really difficult to motivate myself to do either more than once or twice each week.

I know that I eat a lot of the wrong food types, and at the wrong times of day (always skip breakfast but snack in the evenings)

My problem is that I seem to use food as some kind of emotional support, and can't seem to kick the bad eating habits that have developed over the years.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

I used to skip breakfast and because of this I wasn't eating enough calories every day and this made my body feel like I was starving it and turned everything I did eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops me from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Check out how many calories you should be having daily on the NHS bmi calculator to be able to lose weight because this amount is higher than most people think and go for the higher amount because then you have room to move and drop if you come across problems but if you go for the lower the. You cannot drop any further because your body will think your starving it again. Good luck with your journey.

Thank you very much needtodosomething.

I'm still getting information as the day goes on regarding yesterdays events, and things move so quickly that I already have a TIA clinic appointment in about 90 minutes time.

Tank you very much for your encouragement, it means a lot :-)

Hi Needtodosomething,

Not a great deal happened at the appointment. More physical examination, then a chat about what comes next. More scans and monitoring to come.

I'm really grateful for all the support you've all offered me on my first day, and will definitely go all out to make a success of my journey.

Thank you again :-)

Hi 4kix

Good news that the hospital are monitoring you so closely; you will doubtless get lots of 'healthy living' info from them.

Try not to worry, think about what needs to be addressed ... and go for it!! 👊

Wishing you every success; take care.

Hi Needtodosomething

Thank you once again for all the kind words.

I am feeling some enthusiasm for cycling today, and will shortly be jumping on the turbo trainer for some gentle interval training.

Feeling positive with the support of you and others who have been kind enough to respond.

You take care too :-)
