Losing weight to have a baby

Hi everyone just in need of some oomph to get going I've been married for a year and really want to start a family as feel this is the missing part of our lives. We started trying last Nov until the doc advised us to stop until I lost the weight. I've been to slimming world and felt judged as the leader said that she doesn't like women doing the journey just cos they want a baby as you put the weight back on. I find losing weight really hard to keep up so this has knocked me back again Please Help...

Rest assured there will be no judgements passed on this forum. We all have our own reasons for loosing weight and I think yours is a brilliant reason.

Keep joining in the chat on the forum and keep motivating yourself with your wonderful end game.

Can't believe that attitude! It's down to you why you want to lose weight ... down to them to give you guidance to achieve what you want, if that's the business they are in and what you are paying them for!, and frankly none of their business if you stay at target or not afterwards! Good luck with your journey I hope you achieve your goal both weight wise and in the form of a beautiful baby to complete your family 😊

I am losing weight for the same reason to do with having children and always struggled everywhere else with losing weight for years and amazingly found out on here the whole reason why. This was because I never ate enough calories as I only ate around 1000 Cals a day without realising. I often thought I overate. Do check how many you should be having on the NHS bmi calculator and make sure you eat between the right amount of calories as if you don't eat enough your body thinks your starving it and turns what your eating into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please don't make this mistake as I did this for years. Good luck with your journey.

Hi marjieholly and welcome.

I wish you every success with trying for a baby. It didn't happen straight away for me, but that was because my uterus was malformed because of my disability :-( and I only had one fallopian tube connected and my uterus was half the size it should be.

I know that when entering the "fertility roundabout" - it is a bit like that - you feel that you are letting everyone down because of your difficulties in conceiving...

Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.

My main message / tip would be to just KEEP ON GOING. Weight loss doesn't (or in my opinion, shouldn't) happen quickly - especially if you want to maintain your target once you are there!

Oh, and by the way, I did succeed in having a baby - she's 21 years old in November!!!

What could be a greater motivation than to lose weight to have a child. Also if you lose weight not only will you be healthier and more likely to succeed but you will not risk gestational diabetes and your baby will be healthier. So make a plan as to how to eat less, eat more healthier and take more exercise. Its common sense really - calories in need to be less than calories out. I bought a fit bit to record all I eat and all my exercise and so I can see clearly how many calories I expend in a day and how much I can eat to make a deficit to lose weight.

So best of luck and stick with it. Every time you feel like reaching for the biscuits or cake or bread think of what you want to achieve and ask yourself whether than couple of minutes of pleasure in eating that item is really worth knocking yourself off course for your goal that wonderful baby

What a rude person! She should have been like - yes! That's great motivation! I would report her for being an idiot and a terrible SW representative.

In my opinion SW is a great start but doesn't teach your portion control and isn't always a great motivator. This forum is amazing :) wanting to lose weight to have a happy healthy mum and baby experience is a great reason to get going! I'm not married yet so I'm using a future wedding (I'm not engaged to my boyfriend yet either lol) as motivation AND future babies. I feel I'll struggle to conceive until I'm a healthier weight and this keeps me walking at lunch when I want to sit down and have a coffee instead!

You're in the right place!
