Hi I'm new here desperate to lose weight but life always seems to get in the way and my resolve goes downhill. Have been overweight all my life I need to lose at least 6 stone. I have three children so temptation is always there food wise. Would love to hear your experiences of doing this. I'm away for my 50th Birthday in two weeks and I know I won't be on plan then as we have baby sitters for the weekend, on the plus side we can go walking in the Lake District.

Hi whippets

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hi Rose, thanks for your reply. I'm currently laid up in bed at the moment with a cold/virus thing not feeling great at all. So I think till I'm feeling 100% I'm not going to be doing anything at the moment but wanted to join to see everyone's posts and comments.. Want to feel better before doing this. Maria X

Hello and welcome,

I can relate to how you feel as a busy lifestyle and you don't eat consistently then when you feel hungry you grab the things you shouldn't be eating.

Losing the weight can seem daunting but concentrate on each lb at a time not stones. Putting pressure on yourself to lose weight can cause additional stress and leads to comfort eating

When it comes to holidays, the lake district is a great place to keep active (walking, cycling) be selective when it comes to eating out and most importantly have a great time!

Stick at it and you will get the rewards you want.

When you do start make sure you check out your calories you should have on the NHS bmi calculator as this gives you personal amounts for you to eat betweeen to be able to lose weight. Do choose to eat the higher amount as this gives you amounts you can drop with if you have problems with your weight loss. If you are on the lower amount already you can't drop any further because if you don't eat enough calories your body thinks you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. Please don't make this mistake as I did this for years and always struggled with losing weight but was told about this when I joined here and still struggling to lose weight because I was still eating less than advised and I have now lost 2 1/2st. Good luck with your journey.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not starting it at the moment as I'm not well. Was at doctors this morning and have been put on steroid tablets, antibiotics and inhalers. As soon as I'm well I will be starting it. XX
