Hi, I'm returning to dieting again! I don't have a lot to loose, about 1stone. I am 52 years old and have a BMI of 27.I weigh 10st 4lbs. Not too bad, but I now have arthritis in my hands and I am concerning about my knees, so loosing weight and gaining muscle strength can only help.
I started the NHS 12 week diet plan on Monday, and so far so good. My biggest downfalls are wine, twice a week, with the snacks as well! I walk to exercise, but have started Physio led core muscle strength exercises at home too.
Is there anyone else of a similar age, menopausal!, out there doing this?

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Make sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our βWhat's happening todayβ thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Me! I have high blood pressure.. I need to lose about a stone and a half. Hard going but I'm in the zone. Just wish I'd seen better progress. 3 pounds in 2 weeks seems painfully slow to me!
I think I would be happy with 3lbs in two weeks! I don't have the best will power and rarely get thru a week without cheating.....also a stone and a half isn't too far from a normal weight making it harder to loose!
"Slow and steady wins the race" , its true and it is proven that a slower loss is much more likely to stay off longterm. I took 11 months to lose 2 st. That was in 2015 , been maintaining ever since.
Hi Dozzle, l'm 52 5ft 5 and weigh 11st 11 so have 2 stone to lose. Am just about to head for the gym for week 7 run 1 of the couch to 5k. I get terrible sweet cravings and find dieting tough, have never really enjoyed exercise before but am finding the forum is helping to keep me motivated. I have a long standing back complaint so running might not be the best thing to do but because the programme increases slowly l am not finding it a problem, l also treat myself to sometime in the spa steam room and hot tub as it's all included in my membership! Best of luck with your journey keep posting
Ah, same height and weight as me when I started here in 2014... altho ten yrs older. Take your time over that 2st and you're far more likely to keep it off. I took nearly 11 months to lose 2st, but have kept it off ever since ( plus a further 7 lbs). Slow and Steady is the name of the game.
Hello Dozzle and welcome, my stats are very similar to yours, age 52, weight 10 stone 3.5 at the moment, recently started physio Pilates class. I'm shorter than you (4ft10) so have a bit more to lose, 24 lb to a healthy BMI. Arthritis in my feet has limited my hiking and a recent back problem has slowed all exercise down but that's slowly improving. I've found being middle aged and shorter means weight loss is slow but I'm happy with that as long as it goes in the right direction and I don't have to go to bed hungry! Good luck π
