I'm new to this site and loosing weight in a structured way - it always seemed to be a natural thing previous. This time I am massively overweight and feel totally overwhelmed by the task in front of me.
I am hoping that by joining with others I get motivated to start the journey to a healthier weight and lifestyle. Not sure what to expect and feeling a bit nervous about taking the first steps xx

Hi and welcome
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Don't be nervous Sun_seeker, be proud that you're taking your first steps towards health and fitness! Don't focus on the end goal, make small, sustainable changes, have achievable goals and enjoy your journey!
You can do this and we can help
Hi,
Don't worry 😉 to much, I'm very new to this myself, I only found this site a few days ago and joined.
I have a lot of weight to lose, 4 stone, I know it's not going to disappear overnight, so I'm planning on small steps 7Ibs at a time, and just taking it one day at a time. I have joined the 12 week NHS plan and have started the weekly weigh in on site.
We can do this, there is so much support on this site, which is so motivating.
Good luck 😉 and let's return next week a few pounds lighter. Xxx
It's nice to hear from another newbie and great to see you so positive. I'm sure I'll get there - once I actually lose a little.
Like you I have 4 stone to lose, though I am using kilos (all 25 of them) - not that it makes that much difference. I haven't yet managed to work out how to put my weight in on this site - so another look 👀 around this afternoon. Also, just like you, I have downloaded the 12 week plan.
I hope your first week is very successful and you feel even more motivate for the following week.
I'm very aware I'm not going to lose all this extra weight over night, so I'm taking it one day at a time and breaking it down into 7Ib blocks.
Why I never had control and the willpower to lose my first 7Ib gain I will never know 😱😳😱
I always tend to stick to the same meals when I'm dieting and then I get bored 😐 so I'm looking at my Hairy Bikers diet book for inspiration as they show the calories for their meal.
So good 😊 luck to you, let's have a great 👍 week, let's see what we can achieve. Xxxx
How are you doing so far this week? Do you have a target level for calorie intake? I found mine and was really shocked at how high it was, 1650 - 2127, guess that shows me just how much overweight I am.
Have you got strategies for staying focused and does it get easier the more time you are doing it?
Like you I wish I had nipped the weight gain in the bud as soon as it started. But we're all wiser after the fact - let's hope that it's a lesson learned for the future 😃🙂🙂
I'm taking the tip about one day at a time and setting myself what I hope 🤞 is a small achievable target 🎯 so 4.5 kgs it is - and a flexible 2 months to get there.
Hope your week has been a good one and you are on target for your weigh in xxx
