Need all the help I can get
Hello weejen and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Menopause does make weight loss more difficult but not impossible. Also if you don't have much to lose it will be slow. But the health benefits are instant, both from increasing fitness as well as eating better. π
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Jen
A stone isn't too much to lose and should be doable. I'm 54 and I am certain it does become more difficult to lose weight with age! I've not yet got through the menopause.
It may just be a case of examining what you eat - I know that Slimming World allow you to eat rice and pasta freely - but of course, these items do contain calories - and I find they are the sorts of foods alongside things like bread, cereals, potatoes, anything with added sugar - that are higher GI (higher up the Glycemic Index) nhs.uk/chq/pages/1862.aspx?... so if you can try to limit these foods - or even try and cut them out altogether for a few weeks, it may give you a nice surprise in terms of weight loss.
I have been losing weight for over 5 years now, and I concentrate on eating good fats - things like oily fish, nuts, Greek yogurt, small amount of butter and oil in cooking instead of creamy flour based sauces.
Cooking meals from scratch is also a good plan as many ready-prepared foods, sauces, condiments have added sugar and starches (flour).
It would be interesting to know what a typical day looks like for you in terms of the foods that you consume.... and some of us may be able to offer advice and support?
Hi thanks for your reply much appreciated. I don't eat much rice or pasta and if I do it's wholemeal as white rice pasta and bread are some of my intolerance for IBS. I make all my meals from scratch and do eat as healthy as I can lol this is my last resort to loose it , and I don't even touch alcohol much .
Sorry ment to add my daily diary of food
Breakfast
Post grad grapenuts 40g
Milk
Strawberries
Lunch
Soup from work dining room which is all made healthy
1/4 tub of alpro coconut yogurt with melon or grapes
Dinner
Tonight was chicken mushrooms onions spices garlic and noodles ( chicken stirfry)
That all sounds pretty good to me. What on earth are post grad grapenuts? I know grapenuts (make a great topping on yogurt!)
Perhaps you are not eating enough, strange as it may sound?
