Hi everyone, my name is Kate and I turned 60 back in March.
I'e been on loads of diets over the years and they've all been fairly successful. I lost 60lbs with Weight Watchers about 20+ years ago, 50lbs with Slimming World a few years ago, and other diets in between.
But like a lot of us, I stupidly put the weight back on.
After my son committed suicide in January 2001 I put on over 3 stone, taking me to my heaviest ever weight of 16st 10lbs. I then joined a slimming group and lost about 4 stone.
My "normal" weight is usually between 13-14.7 stone and a size 18ish .
What made me decide to lose weight again???
Well last year I went to Turkey with 3 girlfriends in September/October, and around Christmas time one of them sent me the photos she'd taken and when I saw a few of me, I thought OMG!!!! I thought I looked horrible. (Since the holiday I'd gained a further 1 stone).
I then decided I needed to do something
So on my late Mothers birthday 7th January I started to eat healthily.
My aim was to lose 2 stone by my 60th birthday (14th March)
I cut out bread completely as that was what I used to live on, and in came fresh fruit and vegetables and meat.
Well I achieved my 2 stone loss by my birthday and decided to carry on eating healthily as I was actually enjoying it.
I used what I had learnt at Slimming World to keep me on track.
I reached my own set target weight of 11st 7lbs last week. But I'm going to carry on as I'd really love to see the number 10 as the first number on my scales. I've not seen the number 10 first for about 30 years.
I am NOT on a diet, I am simply eating healthily for the rest of my life. This time the weight is NOT going to go back on.

Hello Got_Slim_at_60 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
Thank you so much for telling us your story and very well done on your weight loss so far! You are doing very well and I agree totally about the change in attitude from 'diet' to eating sensibly. 😀
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you normally have a 'Newbie' badge, but I've given you a 2 stone badge to reflect your recent success. If it's actually more then please just let me know 😀
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Fabulous narrative and well done you. Inspirational.
Look forward to seeing you on here regularly so we can all take heed of your advice
What a fantastic weight loss story, although I was terribly sad to hear about your son, Got_Slim_at_60 . Hope you stay in touch with us on this forum on the next part of your healthy eating story! 😊
Hi Got Slim at 60, well done that is fantastic. It was so nice to read your post and thank you for sharing. I feel exactly the same I am not on a diet I am making healthy choices and I am now 3 stone 3lb under my heaviest ever. I don't feel as though I am missing out on anything as no food is banned. Making healthier choices has led me to feeling better, which in turn motivates me to carry on. If I do eat something that is high in calories I don't feel as though I have failed because I am not on a diet. I do, however keep a food diary, which I fill in every night. Good luck on your journey
That's certainly a good read. Worth the time reading and posting here. Its a nice thing to know you've come up with a better realization and it turned out you had been successful in your weight goals. Just keep it up and think positive as always.
Well done keep at it I'm sure it won't be long before you see that no 10
You've done so well and after tales of sadness
Having been to slimming world myself I agree it does give you a mindset to eat healthier foods and cutting bread I always see the difference
Good luck in getting where you want to be but looking back 11 stone something is never a bad place to be for me anyway (but guess your height always plays a differece) so don't get yourself stressed on a number just being healthy and staying there is as important.
