Just Starting, but very worried!!!!!!!!

I am disabled after I was run over by a car, many years ago, I have been in pain for 34 years. I have been told by my pain clinic to just watch my weight, I'm about 1 stone overweight apparently!!! Anyway my disability is the issue, food is!!! I don't like eating!! When I was a teenager I suffered with anorexia (pretty bad) however now I'm 51 and disabled I feel so fat and ugly. Most diets I find there is far too much food to eat!!! Can anyone suggest any help please?

Hello DisabledCat1966 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

If you have only gained a stone in 34 years you are not too far off with your current eating pattern. If eating too much is an issue migh to suggest maybe looking carefully at the quality of food? We have many members for who normal physical activities can cause an problem but who successfully lose weight, myself included after a motorbike accident almost 40 years ago.

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

I don't think 1 stone overweight sounds that bad. I started off about a year ago, 5 stone overweight. I have lost 3 stone and for the last few months have maintained a weight of around 14 stone. I now want to lose another stone, so I've just started the 12 week plan again today.

I struggled with exercise, following a lower spinal cord injury 5 years ago. Then I decided I wanted to improve my fitness levels (before I even thought about losing weight) so I started trying to propel myself a little further each day. I started off with just a couple of hundred metres but by Christmas, I was able to take part in my first 5k fun run (in my wheelchair).

I think the important thing with exercise for disabled people is that you have to find something you enjoy, that doesn't increase your pain too much and that you have realistic expectations about progress. I try to think in very small steps!

Yesterday I posted a link to a booklet about exercise. You might find it useful.

DisabledCat1966 , if you don't mind, kindly change your name because it impacts adversely on how you view yourself...power of the spoken word

I don't think that changing my name will help me lose my stone in weight. Plus it does NOT impact me on how I see myself?!?! Sorry if this upsets you Matets. Plus up until 3 years ago I was a model, so my mental health is just fabo and as Finberry says I only have 1 stone to lose, I will just eat 1500 cals per day
