Hi, I'm Al and this is my first ever post on a forum so please be gentle with me! I'm a 61 year old female and I need to lose 4 stone. My son will be getting married next year and I want to be able to wear something nice and not embarrass him on the photos! I'm not going to be unrealistic and expect to lose all the weight by then - I'd just be happy to lose a couple of stone.
My problem is will-power and lack of self-confidence. I'm hoping a supportive forum like this will help me get off to a good start and keep me on the right path!
Good luck to you all with your health and weight loss journey.

Hi and welcome AlStorm
What a lovely reason to join us,
You have definitely found the right place for help, support and motivation,
Make small changes they are easier and more sustainable.
Set yourself some mini goals and non-food reward yourself for each one you achieve
Join in on the forum it really does make a difference, join a challenge, a weigh in, ask questions, join the daily diary for help, advice and great ideas, chat or just read the posts
Welcome AlStorm you have come to just the right place. We are a supportive bunch, all ages, all sizes, all full of support and encouragement.
Come on here as often as you can and join in the conversations, it is great fun and you learn loads.
Lots of us follow the Daily Diary thread and plan our meals, it is great because you get to see what others are eating and get loads of ideas.
Think about your won't power - what is it that you won't put in your mouth! For me I won't put any processed foods, sugar/sweeteners/white flour or other refined carbs in my mouth.
It is surprising how liberating that is. I always cook from fresh ingredients, always have but would then add a commercially prepared sauce and undo all my good work.
Think of this as a lifestyle change not a diet. You are right to recognise it is a marathon rather than a sprint.
Above all make food your friend not your enemy, and just visualise, really visualise how stunning you will look in your fabulous wedding outfit next year.
Hello AlStorm and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
What a lovely reason to lose weight, I started out preparing for my son's wedding and I'm now a Granny! If you follow the suggestions below, especially about eating the correct number of calories, it makes the whole process much easier and enjoyable. It's about making the right choices, nourishing our amazing bodies, and spending our calories wisely.
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask
Welcome, youve come the the right place here! Everyone is really supportive, loads of tips and recipes, and doing the Daily Diary really helps keep you focused
welcome AlStorm , nothing to add to what has already been said. There are many of us who don't belong to any other forum, never thought I would join one but so pleased I did.
The more you interact, the more support you will get. Good luck
