Needing motivation to get to healthy weight

rubyred77 profile image
13 Replies

Hi I'm new to this group and I'm not very good at asking for help but I need to try and get some weight off firstly for health reasons and secondly for my self esteem.

I'm 50 next June and I know I have 2 stone to lose and it seems a huge amount to me.

I work as a dog groomer and find my eating pattern is really erratic. Love my job but never make time to stop and eat .

I'm hoping g this forum will motivate and give me some ideas on how to get my substantial backside moving .

Hi Rubyred,

Welcome to the NHS Weight Loss forum :D

You can find the NHS 12 Week Plan to the right of your screen - just click on the picture!

Take a look at the right hand side of your screen (bottom if you're on a mobile device) at the 'pinned posts' area - here is a collation of various useful posts (such as the 'Welcome Newbie' post and challenges that are currently being run on the forum - take part in what ever you want to)

In that 'Pinned Posts' section, there is also a collation of recipe ideas, they will always come in useful too :D

The Monday Weigh In group is posted weekly, Zest and moreless , who are also our approachable site admins alternate the posting of the thread between them. There is a morning thread (if you weigh in between 06:30 until midday) and an afternoon/evening thread (from midday on Monday until 6pm on the Friday of that week).

The topics section, underneath the 'pinned posts' area will give you all of the posts related to that topic - it's useful if you're looking for something specific! :)

Finally, all that remains is to wish you a great first week on the forum!

Best wishes,

Rob :D

Hi I'm also new to the group and turning 50 in January, probably have about the same amount of weight to lose too. Although I work with food all day I'm busiest serving food during the times I should be eating and end up just eating all the unhealthy choices for quickness on the run so I know how you feel. I'm taking some homemade soup tomorrow so going to try hard to eat it before it goes cold hahaha. Hope we can support each other on our journeys.

Good luck

Thank you for your reply yes will be good to try and support each other.

I'm going to try and have breakfast as I'm hopeless and just have a coffee then more coffee all day and at night I start with a proper cooked meal but then snack all night .

It's too easy to put on not so easy to lose but baby steps and we will do it xx

Welcome to the forum. Many of us have found the key to losing weight when you are busy and with different working hours is planning. Working out your menu for the week really helps. I try to be realistic and on my really busy days I plan for omelette and salad or a jacket potato because I know I won't have time to cook a complicated meal. On other days I have a lovely meal often taken from the hairy dieters books that the whole family loves. Good luck

Hi Rubyred77

Welcome to the forum, I too am new and I am also atrocious at breakfast - so this is going to be the hard part to start with.

I also used to drink coffee and more coffee (with milk and 2 sugars) then I wouldn't eat anything until the evening meal

I have now limited the coffee to two max first thing in the morning and am drinking hot water at work instead of coffee (sometimes with a dash of lemon in it)

Good luck on your journey
