I am very conflicted about how to go about weight loss. I had an eating disorder in my 20s and would hate to resort to those obsessive patterns. Also I have a young daughter. I am determined to never be the mom who is constantly dieting and not enjoying a treat now and again because I don't want her to feel certain foods are shameful. That being said I am a solid 20-30 lbs overweight and am miserable about it. I find myself avoiding social situations because I'm so ashamed of my weight gain. I would love any input about finding balence. Also what is the best way to find support on this forum. Anyone interested in partnering up and being a weight loss buddy? Perhaps having an anonymous friend in all of this would help.

Hi Hidden
Welcome to the weigh loss forum.
Being overweight is nothing to be ashamed of so please try not to avoiding social occassions.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

Have a good first week.

Hi and welcome,
You have found the perfect place for healthy eating, no diets just sensible eating, check the bmi calculator and get your calorie allowance, then work out nice healthy meals for both you and your daughter, (my husband has no idea he's healthy eating😉😂) sugar swaps are great and I still have a treat at least once a week (no food is banned) it's up to you how you use the calories.
Please don't avoid social events, you are a wonderful person, find something you enjoy doing and start enjoying yourself, happiness helps. I also took the pressure off by not setting set goals at set times, I'm losing weight slowly, having fun and loving the new me.
You can do it 🏆 good luck

Wow. Thanks for that!
I agree with Kat that following the NHS 12 week plan is a balanced approach to weight loss. I just want to add one word of caution. It is based on calorie counting and with a eating disorder history you might want to avoid that. I guess it depends on your history with controlling everything that goes in your mouth...
I think you should seek professional advice from a dietitian so that you don't trigger bad, old habits
Welcome to the forum. I am losing weight for my wedding despite the fact my fiancé and I haven't set a date yet. I am following Slimming World but weighing in at my mum's house because I am saving for my wedding and I am in the process of moving. I have lost 5 1/2 lbs in the last 4 weeks. I like this forum and appreciate the support that I get from other members as well as family and friends.
Hi, I was fat all the way through school then once I left slowly developed an eating disorder, would only eat 500 calories a day and was on slimming tablets became scared to eat anything but yoghurt and fruit!
Would get up before work to exercise and then start again when I got home, was a size 6 and still thought I was huge!
I started eating properly when I got pregnant then started eating badly, 3 babies on and 3 stone + to lose, I'm also worried about falling in to bad weight loss habits again as it's easy to do, also scared of the bad Ones I've picked up again!! we have to be healthy about it for our babies .
Wishing you luck , and if you need a weight loss buddy I'm here, have a great day 😊
Well said Hidden very supportive and plenty of good sense.
Hey I am just seeing this post! Yes please weight loss buddy. I only have 1 baby but trying for #2. I've been unhappy with my weight since forever and I hate it. I finally decided my disorders wouldn't be my daughters and I stopped dieting. Unfortunately I've never been fatter. I have 2 stone to loose....thanks for your input!
Hi, yay! I know what you mean I don't want my girls to get obsessed with food and weight. I'm trying the 2 day diet ( thought is was the 5.2 but there different!) I've done it before and lost weight hence baby number 3😀 but on the 2 diet days I don't restrict my calories! Just don't have carbs for 2 days and make sure I eat lots of veg and protein.
And on the other 5 days I can still have treats 😊 (just not the amount I normally shovel in)
I think cutting out sugar has helped (it makes me fall asleep almost instantly!) im certainly less grumpy and the heels of my feet used to hurt every morning and now don't 😊
I'm off to the farm with the little ones ,
Hope you have a great day 😊
Good luck 😀
Yeah sugar is tough....I do pretty well on weekdays but seem to fall pretty hard on weekends. Somehow I loose willpower around my husband probably because we just have so much fun together! I would love to have someone to check in with on a regular basis. I can't remember how much are you trying to loose? My goal is 2 stone and so far first week I'm down 2 lbs. Have fun with your kiddos😁
