Hi! I'm 18, 5'4 and around 78kg. I'm a size 10-12 and never would have considered myself that heavily overweight, just slightly chubby, but was shocked today when my doctor bluntly said I had to lose weight if I wanted to keep taking the pill.
So starting today I'm aiming to lose about 25kg. Any tips? I'm currently waiting on knee surgery, so intense physical activity is really hard for me at the minute.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

Hidden hi and welcome to the forum. I'm an inch taller than you and weight about 163 kgs and would love to know where you're buying size 10s that fit - I'm struggling to get into a size 38 here in France - about a size 12 in the UK. I'm so far off a size 36 it's laughable - at least another 5kilos away which would take me down to 58kgs
Hi, I'm 5'4" and 61kg ( have successfully reached my target weight), I know everyone is a different shape, but there's no way I'm a size 10/12 ! Hope your knee surgery goes well and good luck with your weight loss journey. Maybe take your measurements, it's nice to see the inches reducing.
Hello catmarie, We all follow different plans. Many of us are using the NHS 12 week plan, calorie controlled. If you are going to use this plan, or any plan really, I find it is good to write everything down that you eat, try and plan a day ahead so you know what you are going to have. Anything tempting that you know you cannot resist, get out of the house and replace with healthy snacks, almonds are good, but make sure you weigh them. Check your BMI, then you will see how many calories you should be eating. Don't be tempted to eat too few, you will loose weight initially, but then your body will think you are starving it and won't let go of its reserves. The eating plan is far more important than the exercise, just do what you can, it doesn't have to be intense.
It sounds to me from the point of view of someone who is 52 years old, 5'5" tall and has been over a size 18 all my life (from about age 16), mostly a size 22-28, and has been on the pill for a lot of that time and is currently still on the depo 3-monthly contraceptive injection, that unless you have some major anti-pill issues - high blood pressure and so on, that your doctor is a bit mad - or possibly trying to scare you into losing weight. I would seek a second opinion on that, perhaps pointing out how much more potentially life-threatening actual pregnancy is.
We live in a society where there is so much pressure on women's bodies to conform to this or that. although you are at the top end of the BMI overweight range for your age and it would be of benefit to you to lose some weight, there is a lot to be said for being comfortable in your own skin. If you are happy and healthy at that weight then I shouldn't panic, just take it gently, one step at a time. If you lose a little it will presumably help your knee pre-surgery and also in rehab afterwards.
The BMI is useful for giving a range, but one of the more recent ideas is checking your waist measurement - apparently women who have a 35" waist or more are more likely to suffer from a variety of different ailments - this measurement is an indicator of visceral fat which is packed around your inner organs, more active and therefore more harmful than fat in other places.
Good luck with your weight loss journey - and good luck talking to someone more sensible about contraception.
