Welcome to the weight loss forum.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.
Have a good first week.

The great news is that food packaging (in the UK) has significantly improved from what it used to be "when I was young"! Are you into your technology, as this will make things much simpler - there are lots of sites and Apps for your phone which contain a food database - so you simply weigh your food, enter that on the App or site (eg, Pink Lady Apple, 120g) and the site works out the calories for you!
I have been using this site (weightlossresources.co.uk) for over 5 years now, and it has helped me to lose over 4 stone! It seems a real chore having to weigh and log food, but believe me, it works well in re-educating ones self about portion sizes and the calories in different foods. I used to be a fan on roasted salted nuts, but having discovered that there are 600 calories in a tiny 100g of salted peanuts, I simply cannot afford to eat them! My calories to continue to lose weight are just 1,100 calories a day. I am very short (4ft 9") and VERY sedentary as I am disabled.
The site also helps you work out how many calories you need to eat a day to lose weight, which is dependant on age, height, weight, sex, activity level.
The good news is that if you are able to exercise, you can earn more calories by exercising. I have bought myself an activity monitor which shows my calories burned, steps walked and I also use it to calculate how many calories a specific exercise session can earn me.
So the great news is that - unless you're a technophobe, technology can be a great help in your weight loss journey!
I won't lie, it's hard work losing weight (much easier to gain, so it appears!) and depending on your current lifestyle and diet, there may be lots of changes to be made!
Good luck, post here often and let us know how it's going. Don't hesitate to ask for help or support - we're a friendly bunch!
A warm welcome to the group 4936. You will like it here. Not only will you lose pounds, you can make friends as well. So many lovely people here, it's wonderful. Good luck!
Thank you for your support, I have weighed myself this morning, need to loose 10/12lbs, not that good with technology so just need a buddy I think
I have about the same to lose and love to be your buddy 4936. We're all in the same boat and support each other. I'm on the 12 week programme that YellowRose mentions in her post above. This works well for me. It's more of a live style changes than a diet but it's not fast track either. You can do it 4936
Oh thank you for your support, looked at that program and I know my problem is eating to fast and large portions, have always eaten healthy
There is a link on the NHS Choices website live well section has a link to free calorie counter. also if you have certain meals you cook frequently then work out the calories for it so you don't have to keep working out the calories a slong as you don't vary it or the ingrediants
