Help Serial Dieter needs some tips!

Everydayisanewpage profile image

I am a serial diet quitter but I have just had enough and I really want to beat my demons and have a positive weightloss journey and learn how to be healthy rather than how to lose weight. Do you have any hints and tips on how to beat the cravings or stick the course?

Hi and welcome, Everydayisanewpage :)

Hi and welcome!

I was the same..followed the tried and tested low cal diet only to fall off the wagon.

Reading this book changed my perception and really made me see that following a low carb, high fat way of eating is the way for me.

I am now a maintainer and still going strong!

Worth a reread, that post! Still love it even though I’m not a complete lchf convert. But I love that you have listened to your body and found a way that suits you.

Hi NMJ, Ive just gone into your post from a year ago following your link. What a great tale of perseverance and learning. You've done so well and I'm glad you're around to share your experiences still. I think the value of all you wonderful people who are prepared to share and support is what makes this forum so worthwhile and special. I've only been here 2 weeks and I'm reading and learning so much. I'm still trying to fathom out the whole world of LCHF and keto etc.. It's like learning a new language. Plus IF and macro nutrients etc.. Wow.. It's a jungle out there 🤔🤔

I'm getting to grips with loads of new ideas.. Still can't reconcile the idea of being allowed to eat cheese without the guilt.. I love cheese!!! And as for cream... Unheard of. Wow. So, what I'm saying to you all who've been there and got the t shirt is thanks for your time, your wisdom and your support, it's priceless🤗

I am so glad you have found this post so useful - this forum has been the difference to me, I definitely wouldn't have got to where I am now without the support of all the members here so giving back is really important :)

It takes a while to find out what works for you, keep on reading and learning - I have amended my way of eating even further from this post from reading more stuff! Good luck in your journey. Don't give up, you are worth the time and effort :)

Another bit of advice is keep it simple! I worried about macronutrients when I first started reading about carbs, but when you are following low carb, your body tells you when you have eaten enough and when it's hungry. You will know how much fat you need to eat to keep you satiated until your next meal. My biggest lesson was, it's okay to be hungry, knowing that a tasty meal was coming. I used to think it was the end of the world when I was starving!!

It did take quite a while to believe I was losing weight eating pork belly and veggies covered in butter...but I did. And I felt amazing eating the stuff! It's definitely a way that I will continue eating forever, it's not a diet but a way of life!

Hi 19sunflower, what I would say is don't let yourself be swamped by jargon and acronyms and measuring. As you'll see from NMJ's post, she hardly mentions all that.

There's a very encouraging post here from our moreless: it was on the LCHF forum and you may need to join the forum to read it but I would recommend it as getting rid of the complications and angst :)

Hi and welcome and don't think of it as a diet but healthy eating plan for life. A lot of people on here swear by the LCHF plan and may suit you . I'd say take it in small steps and set acheivable goals and good luck. The 12 week NHS plan helps you get your head around eating and exercise so check that out

I have been obese and I think probably morbidly obese for several years and between August this year and now December I have joined a local Slimmers World group and with their help and support it has meant that I am not eating anything but the healthy food and get weekly support from people, some of whom are in the same position as me and there are tips and incentives to keep you on track.as well as unlimited information, if you ask for it regarding other people's exersize tips and nobody feels singled out I actually plan my days now and have a better attitude towards food and exercise and whilst doing this I have also gone down three sizes and lost nearly a stone.there is no pressure and you find what works for you not a quick fix.Thorouhly recommend finding a local group, has improved my life 100%.

Hi, Everydayisanewpage , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

I accessed this site about four weeks ago. I too am a serial dieter and haven't been able to seriously lose weight for a number of years. My recommendation is to read the articles advised and start to follow the low carbohydrate high fat diet. For the first time in ages I have started to lose weight again, ok only 3llbs, but given my social life in the run up to Christmas this is a miracle for me. I am currently in Prague on a mini break and have trying to stick with the principles with the odd treat. My intention is damage limitation breaks on, until the new year, then I will really embrace this healthy way of living. Good luck
