When I reach my 1st stone loss I am going to go out and buy a pair of roller blades. Any tips on good makes, and how to get started?
I have been saying for years I want to learn how to do it properly and have had some in the past but never took it seriously enough to keep at it. Now I feel like the time is right for it.

Wow go you, I can't help on the choosing or how to do it, but can you not check for any local clubs? I wish you good luck though xx
I haven't done it either for a while. I remember the roller skates with the 4 wheels on each corner they were cool. I think main reason for getting them is that if I am able to do this in spring and summer then during the winter months I can ice skate better and also do freestyle skiing.
What has this new life done to me??? No longer a couch spud😂😂
Should have seen me last year climbing in the trees like a freakin monkey. Hubby and kids dragged me to a place called Atreenalin. It is where they have all the obstacles up high in the trees and the zip lines. Well I did it with shaking legs and sweating like a pig, with the massive bruises to show for it. Been back a couple of times since then just to prove I can do it for myself.
I am these days in the opinion that life is short. For some of us it is shorter than others. So we should grab on to everything we can and make the most of it, even if it means stepping out of my comfort zone. That is why I am on this journey in the hope of extending my lifespan so I can enjoy more things as I get older.
Crazy I know but this is what growing up has taught me😀
There's quite a few roller discos round here, they have a wonderful retro vibe - maybe that would be a fun place to go. You can usually hire skates for friends who get dragged along protesting they can't join you because they don't have any.....
Ah sorry, i forgot you were in Finland. Now the skating bit makes sense!!! Skating the streets sounds great fun though, I have a very cool mental image of you now, gliding along, weaving in a dancey kinda way!
I'd say the best thing is probably to go to a skate shop. If you want to know decent brands etc the online shop loco skates is quite a good place to start as they don't stock any of the 'probably will break in a week' brands. There's loads of good advice on forums for roller derby for quad skates, but if you're street skating you'll be much better off with inlines - not sure if there are forums for speed skating or hockey that might have advice on inlines?. If you're not going to do stunts then don't get Aggressive skates as they're really heavy go for recreational or freestyle, and if you're not that confident make sure you've got a wheel base length longer than your foot as it'll make you more stable. Good brands I think are Powerslide, Rollerblade and K2.
There are some very cool looking ones with just three wheels at the moment, but I've no idea if they actually make it easier/faster to skate or whether they just look funky!!
