Hi everyone, its me restarting my journey for the umpteenth time, all the while slipping further and further away from my goal. By this point, I think I know everything I should be doing but ain't. Even when I do start, I only last a little while then give i to one craving or the other and before you know it, I'm off the wagon. I'm weak-willed, I lack motivation, drive or consistency and more often than not can't seem to stop myself from overeating. I have done very low calorie diets before and stuck it out, so I know I can survive on very little. I just cant seem to do that with actual food.
At 40 years of age, I weigh about 102kg at 166cm and need to lose just under 40kg to be at a healthy BMI. I have aches and pains all over and have 3 beautiful children I want to live for. Can someone please tell me how to do this? how to push myself, how to get out of this rutt and keep heading in the right direction, how to stop overeating and how to motivate myself and drive my self to succeed. I need all the help I can get.
Thanking you all for your advice

Hi. Try not to think about all the weight you want to lose, or past failed diets, that is always so demoralising. Just take one day at a time. This forum is great for support, ideas and inspiration. We all struggle, that is why we are here. Good luck
I'm trying this time to take my time to lose the weight. Not starve myself but ear sensibly. I'm trying o make a lifestyle change. Don't be hard on yourself. You've re joined this forum...what a great stepπ
Hi thistimeiwill. Don't think diet think healthy lifestyle. Change one thing at a time and don't look at the bigger picture. Break your journey down, say into 7lbs at a time. Stay active on the forum as the advice and support is second to none. Pick a weigh in day and enjoy the camaraderie. We are all on the same journey and come across the same bumps in the road but are here to support each other. Wishing you well on your journey.ππ
Me too. I could have writtenthis I'm going to check in at the end of each day, see if it will help boost my morale, after binge breakdown yesterday, dreading Wednesday, I'm a Wednesday Wobler.and want to eat proportionally, because my life would be better, instead if carbihydrate a'haze'thanks for sharing.Gill
When I came here I thought I knew everything but I decided to push most of it to one side and blindly followed the NHS 12 week plan.
It worked for me and I suspect it can work for most if not all people, as it's based on doing simple healthy things whilst applying the least amount of stress on our mind and body.
Like Minnie has mentioned, getting involved in the forum is a large part of keeping going and doing well.
Hi. My advice: make a plan, explore the forum and other websites where you can find more informations, from where you could get motivation in achieving your goal: losing weight.
Take it step by step. You are not alone in this. Here, are a lot of people ready to help you . π€π€π€
I have been in your shoes for many years . My eldest child is 14 this year and I've still got 3 stone of baby weight. It has to come from you. After Christmas I looked at myself properly in the mirror and thought enough is enough !!! What do you want more ; the chocolate or the nice clothes ?
I have been realistic this time and have lost 9 lb in 6 weeks and I expect it will take me all year to lose this weight.
Be kind to yourself, take it 1lb at a time, plan your meals, fit in what exercise you can. You can do this and you need to put yourself first for a change.
Hi . You have written what I could have written a few months ago . When I was told I had hiatus hernia and had surgery in January I knew it was weight related . We all start somewhere . My sister joined a slimming group as she felt better with company . You may be able to join the NHS Paris scheme if you ask your GP/ practice nurse which includes a discounted gym membership with a specialist coach who will guide and help . With 3 children you have a stressful time but if you could just have a gentle swim to clear your head this may help in so many ways . I have my initial appointment at end of Feb and I this will motivate me . The 12 month programme isn't just related to surgery .It is assessed on a case basis . I know I was eating /drinking rubbish . I simply now don't buy it . plan my meals . Almost treat it like a new job !
Please keep in touch . Like others say it is Monday - a new start . Yes there will be times when we slip up but this will be 1 day out of many . Weigh in and begin . Best wishes .
I thought the scheme didn't apply to me . I work full time and I thought I wouldn't stand a chance of getting this especially with reduced rates being offered . I wanted it more for guided exercise but if you are obese like I am with a BMI now of 31/32 and convey worry about your future then I got a sympathetic ear and a place . I actually phoned and spoke to somebody . This is a 12 month programme. I found my local website a bit off putting so telling my tale helped .
I am in exactly the same boat I'm afraid. Motivation and lack of will power are my problems.
But you know what we don't have problems we have opportunities. First off don't be so hard on yourself. Look at what you have in your life a lovely family for a start. Me too.
Now why don't we do small steps. Keep food as healthy as we can and try using small plates to help with portion control. Exercise is a main concern for me. I have always been on the go but that get up and go has left!! so why not just take 15 mins out of our busy day for a power walk. Will blow the cob webs away and hopefully clear our mind from work or issues we might have.
Thank you everyone for your kind words and responses. Today was mostly a typical day for me, got in from work about 5.30 pm (picking up the kids on the way in) and reheated left over dinner from yesterday, then homework, bath time, clean up, all the way up till about 9.30pm. I did try to track my food and calorie intake was about 1500 cals all together. I have left the kitchen and I'm writing this in bed to resist my usual habit of graze snacking at this time of the night. Drinking herbal tea instead. Clocked 7566 steps on my fitness tracker, So going to chalk up today as a win and be back tomorrow to tell you how I did. Once again, many thanks for your support and wish everyone well on their journeys
Would minus the calories if you are walking as well . You burn off quite a few trotting around . I have gone to bed early to stop that fridge door opening . If I am really craving then a cup of instant hot choc - I use 3 teaspoons instead of 4 is under 100 cals . Curl up with a hot water bottle and a book ...lovely .
