Hi I am Sarah, just turned 50 and have nearly 2 stones to lose. I am currently having therapy for my sugar addiction and would love to hear from others who have kicked the sugar already. I really need to kick it as I am diabetic and I know it's killing me.

Many thanks.

Hello millhouselady and welcome to the weight loss forum 😊 Well done getting help with your sugar addiction. There are many of us on here who battle that demon. Your therapy sound interesting, I hope it is helping you 😊

Here are a few suggestions for getting the most out of the forum. (Please note some of these suggestions are not available if you are using the HU App so I suggest you use the full website.)

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask 😊

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Best wishes

Anna

The best way to do this is to plan, plan and plan some more.

Figure out your full days food or even a full week (its actually easier that way).

You might stray occasionally but having your eating mapped out for the week, your shopping done and something always in the fridge can really help you stick to this.

That way when you think "Hmmmm just one chocolate won't hurt" or "Yes - a piece of cheesecake is fine, I can be good tomorrow" you can pull yourself up and stop because you already know exactly what you are allowing yourself for the week and chocolate and cake is not on the plan. Maybe tomorrow but not today.

You can do this. I know it.

Thank you for that. Seems to make a lot of sense. I'm struggling with normal food right now but it is a starting point. I will print off some meal planners from the internet. How far along your journey?

30 years. No seriously :) Been overweight since I was a kid and see sawed all over the place. Mainly due to depression an comfort eating but managed to the depression under control recently and am in a consistent place with healthy food which is great and makes it so much easier rather than having to fight every bloody urge to eat rubbish !

Wow yes, I'm impressed you can do that. I saw your salad photo. Healthy food to me is always dry and because of all the meds I take, I have a constant dry mouth, yellow tongue and a horrible taste before I even start to eat. I end up throwing most of it away after a few mouthfuls and turn to chocolate which really gets my saliva glands going. So easy. x
