Hi all, I've just joined after conceding defeat and realising that after decades of diets and slimming clubs, I might know it in theory but need some kind of help to put it into practice. My most recent solo attempt at losing weight has resulted in me weighing more today than I have in the last couple years.
I'm hoping to be more accountable to myself by joining in here, although I'm nervous about it as dieting has always been a secretive, shameful (ongoing!) thing for me. I will try and post though, if only to weigh in each week.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺
I know I shouldn't, but from being the only one in school at a slimming club to re-joining them half a dozen times over the next 20 years, it's hard not to feel like a failure at this!
Also tried various food elimination, fasting, meal replacement etc plans but invariably end up back where I started. Either I don't give it long enough or they're not suitable long-term for me. I really don't want this to dominate the next 20 (or more!) years of my life, so am trying to see today as a positive step, but it feels like I've been here soooooooo many times before. :/
I now how you feel! How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 26 and I've tried dieting for years can never stick to it! Right now in trying intermetan fasting where I eat 2-3 small healthy meals a day with fruit and healthy veg snacks and then stop eating at 6 in the evening till 10am the next day, I've actually stuck to it and noticed I'm not bloating as much but I donget really hungry at the evening. Something for me to try out though as I've heard its good for weight loss, I'm also gonna do the couch to 5k from this website
I'm getting back into runnning too now that the weather's nicer, so that should help. If you've a local Parkrun that can be hugely inspiring as they're a timed 5k and you can chart your progress for free. I'm gonna download the post-5k podcast as can just about do that ok and used to be able to do 10k when a bit lighter/fitter!
Setting an evening cut-off point sounds good as I have noticed that eating late can play havoc with my digestion, so I might try being conscious of that.
