Hi and welcome, Maureen :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

When you talk about "comfort eating" in the evenings, is it caused by emotions? Is it just a habit?

Planning can make a big difference here. And also removing temptation. For example, if you didn't have the things that you turn to to snack on in the house, but instead could eat raw vegetables - would you still want to snack :D ??

I do go through phases, but funnily enough, it's much easier to avoid snacking if the temptation isn't there!

Don't worry too much about gym membership - the very best thing you can do is try to get that evening snacking under control.

So how's about making a few little rules for yourself? For example "I won't eat after 8pm" or "If I really want to snack, I'll have some yogurt or a piece of fruit".

I think many of our bad eating habits are just that - they are habits that we need to break!

In case it's helpful, here's a link to a post about the things I changed to help me on my weight loss journey.

Sadly, there is no quick and easy way to success! I'm still working at it 5 years down the line - but it is so worth it for all the improvements I have made and how much better my mobility is!

Hello Clarebear37

It could be you are not eating enough lunch causing afternoon hunger? I prefer a larger midday meal and lighter evening dinner 😊 Or plan a snack of veggie sticks or an apple before your dinner.

Best wishes
