The heaviest I've been is 153 kgs but that was after coming out of hospital for chronic Respiratory condition have had lung function test to which no outcome was given to me, I had irregular heartbeat and put on Bisoprolol 5mg daily 11 months ago and the former 2 year's exactly and we still can't fathom why I felt like it was carbon monoxide but I had my home checked and them I was ex miner of only 18 year's they wondered if dust played apart, anyway I ain't logged into weightloss for about 6 weeks and I'm currently 145 kgs I'm down the gym on x-trainer sit down weights treadmill I'm active 3 to 4 times per week I feel fitter but finding it very difficult to lose more so alongside exercise I'm going to start mounjaro 2.5 weightloss injection Thursday to see how this goes, I hope having a 5 cm gallstone don't come alive whilst having weekly injection, I have passed numerous medical questions with repituble pharmacies, hope this helps my 115kg goal that seems a lifetime away 🤞

Trying to lose weight
You haven't referred to what you're eating.
I'm not doing a carb free but did have a treat with oven chips and breastfed of chicken slices with 2 eggs first time in 6 weeks, I've been having slimming world meals with microwave rice, never eat before 3pm in afternoon only 1 meal per day like Sunday dinner lots of vegetables and 5 small potatoes no dessert a sandwich of tongue and thin sliced cheese evening meal and small yoghurt and nectarine sometimes or 2 small plums, I drink 3 mugs of tea morning, 1 mug of coffee per day,
Yes, Slimming World is definitely not low carb. Have you made any changes to your eating plan while aiming to lose weight?
Well I put plenty of various vegetables on plate, not small portions, but main meal is a smaller portion than I used to have, I have had odd pkt of crisps 25 grams smallish size, I'm eating less and incorporated some fruit pears or nectarine or plums, Yes I've had the odd small bar of double decker chocolate bar is that OK or not?
It's all about whatever fits in to your eating plan. I asked because you're showing great commitment to exercise and yet struggling to lose weight, so it may be worth reviewing - the "what" as well as the "how much".
Yes a nurse I see every 2 months thinks there's something underlying like maybe thyroid, hormone or something to do with insulin that's why I'm going to try weight loss injections privately, was thinking about gastric sleeve, so I'm in the what's the next step saloon and it will be injection 2.5mg gradually building up to 15mg over time to see how that works for me, it could be my occasional snack or something going on that is not allowing me to lose weight with vigorous exercise and smaller portions Bridgegirl 🤞
If it is to do with insulin (as it is for the vast majority of us who've got into the obesity range), then carbs are the main culprit. Good luck, whatever route you take
I'm not sure how I feel about weight loss injections. Unless your weight is life threatening and you've got uncontrolled diabetes I don't believe people should use them .
I put some really nasty things about side effects
No it's not life threatening nor do I have diabetes it's just I have a bmi of 42 and trained hard since after last Xmas don't smoke or drink this year and still haven't lost anything so it's weight loss injections next as I've ordered and hopefully start at low dose by end of week and see how it goes, I'll update on here 🤞
good luck with your weight loss journey.
I hope you can join in to some of the other threads on here, something like the ‘Fit is Fun’ thread, or the ‘Daily Diary’. They really help to keep me on track ( it’s not a linear downward track, but being amongst fellow weight losers is very supportive).
Thanks for good luck wishes as excercise and less portion size with only 1 meal a day hasn't helped at all, just feel better within myself and fitter but my waistline still the same, its quite demoralising not losing weight only maintaining so much so I gave up on gym 2 months ago for 2 weeks as thought what's the point in flogging a dead horse and getting nowhere lol.. so need to try something different, I will have a look at Fit is Fun as if I kept daily diary I'd give up, once a week I think I'll try but it makes sense Daily Diary as I'll know what I'm eating then and beverages ☕️ I hope it keeps me on track Sharmian350 🤞
The first thing you should do is ditch the crisps as the vegetable oil they are cooked in is probably adding to the effect of the carbs which are starch which metabolises as 100% glucose which has a higher GI than table sugar. You should also stop cooking with vegetable oil and switch to butter, coconut oil, olive oil animal fat or avocado oil.

Hi Eryl, I didn't know that about the crisps are worst than I had originally thought. But I do use sunflower oil for eggs, so I'll have to Google if that's ok when frying eggs 🍳 if not ill go down the route of butter which sounds nice.. 😉
No, sunflower is an industrially refined seed oil, for frying eggs just add add a couple of rashers of bacon to you meal and cook in the bacon fat. This video is available but you need to click on 'Watch on youtube' youtu.be/pljQrjiDC9Q?si=TMA...
Hi ForestryPine6 It sounds like you are doing really well with getting fit despite not losing weight. I gave up carbs (after watching that sugar film ..Damon Gameau.. amazon and apple tv) and lost 2 stone mostly eating meat and veg but then stupidly put it on again. I have been on mounjaro injection for 3 weeks and have lost 13 lbs so I am delighted. I have cut out sugar but not all carbs (allow myself a bag of crisps once a week) and have porridge in the morning and a smaller portion normal dinner but nothing in between. The first week one day I had a large portion dinner and then had stomach ache and diarrhoea. I think the way it works is that the food stays in your stomach longer so you feel full most of the time and it mimics hormones so increases insulin secretion, resulting in lower blood sugar. It is very quick to learn that small portions are the way to not have any side effects (for me anyway). Sugar is off the list for me and I am eating a lot less and more veg and protein. I am also more thirsty and drink a lot of water. I have not done much exercise but intend to when I have lost a bit more and feel more confident about going to the gym, swimming etc Hope it goes well for you.
Hi Ellamental and welcome to our forum. Thank you for taking the time to respond to one of our members, its always helpful to hear from someone with first hand experience.
Are you looking to fully join in with our friendly and supportive forum or just here to offer advice when appropriate? Either way is fine but if you'd like to fully join in, I'll give you the full welcome with helpful links. xx
Hi thanks for that welcome 😀 I am on a few groups in HealthUnlocked and just read from time to time when something flashes up on my email. I don't really have advice to give, just my own experiences. Having recently started the injections I was keen to know how others had found it. Many thanks
Thanks for reply Ellamental, I'm pleased to read that Mounjaro is having a positive effect as I did all the research to find it's the one for me also only a matter of when I'm going to purchase this and where from as Boots is the most expensive £229 for 1 month with other's are around £140 per month, Did you have to take photo's of yourself for the Mounjaro provider and can I ask who did you go with as its the start of journey and your weight loss after 3 week's is fabulous 👌 It can be a disheartening putting in the hard yards for 10 months and just maintaining my weight, my weight gain started when I was diagnosed with lymphodema in 2017 and my weight shot up from there with excess fluid in body and take a diuretic everyday so Mounjaro is next stop, Your not stupid putting weight on as it happens like most, we take the positives by getting back on the horse and doing the weight loss again with weekly injection helping along the way, please update on how your getting on, All the best 👍
Hi ForestryPine6. I am sorry to hear you have Lymphodema although I don't know much about it. I know some meds can be connected to weight gain. My sister in law is a nurse and has lost a lot of weight on wegovy but is changing over to Maounjaro (I am not sure why) but she said ASDA online chemist was worth looking at so that is where I get mine from. Yes you have to have a full side on pic with tight clothes on to send them (that made me feel awful but also motivating) and you have to stand on the scales and take a pic of your feet and your weight. But you only do this once, not every month. ASDA charge £179 a month!! Going up to £204 for the strongest dose so after several months. It is crazy money but it is working so far. Where did you see it for £140? I would swap over for that saving (I think). Boots (and ASDA) I feel are trustworthy but I don't know why I think that. You take it for a month at the lowest strength and then go up after 4 weeks unless you feel it is working so well you don't need to increase. The higher the dose the more likely you are to have side effects. I guess that is the point where you stop increasing and stay on what dose works for you but does not make you feel ropey. My brother in law also took it and he felt so unwell after a week he stopped. That was wegovy though. We are all different. I hope it works for you. It is worth asking your GP as they can prescribe it and obviously save you a whole heap of spondoolies! I did ask but was not given it. It is kinda odd that you can have pre diabetes but not be given it to help prevent diabetes and because you are not quite heavy enough but be given it for full on diabetes. I have tried most diets and the keto diet did work for me but I live in a house full of vegans and it was just too upsetting for them me cooking meat and fish. A while ago I looked at gastric bands but I just felt that to have surgery and to take that risk when I have 3 children was not something I could do. I will let you know and you too.. let me know how you get on if you do decide this route.
Morning Ellamental, That's not a bad price with Asda £179 but I've researched other reputable pharmacist like Zava that start at £129 and they are the suppliers to Asda who then add £50 more per month Mounjaro 2,5mg injection pens, that's one of the best, Yes they'll rise gradually with stronger dose, there's Med Express, Chequp £149 both So just Google it and you'll find out for yourself, When I start I will let you know as the gym alone isn't doing it for me and I don't fancy a keto diet with no carbs unless I had no other option. I was phoning for gastric sleeve £5,000 in Riga Latvia and £11,000 in Birmingham but I personally know 2 people a male and female who had it done in Turkey for £2,500 and £2,800 respectfully and for them it's worked a treat but I'll carry on with Orlistat I had off doctor 3 months trial for now as they won't give weight loss injections because although I'm prediabetes they still would be hard to get on prescription if diabetic, the NHS just won't pay, Yes my meds do impact my weight as well, Since lymphodema came along in both lower leg's 2017 the weight went north since, and no matter what I do to date my weight stays the same, I can see myself in January starting Mounjaro with Zava 2,5mg for £129 so the Asda your having is bought by Asda from Zava in England and as I mentioned its the same you just buying it direct.. Second Nature Mounjaro 2.5mg are either £139 or £149 just look online and I forgot exactly what it costs but it's one of the above. Let me know what how you get on. My GP willingly gave me Orlistat capsule 120mg and online they can cost from £40 to £90 which is only 1 months worth. 👍
We understand it's useful to compare notes but there is a lot of potential advertising for companies, here, which is not in line with HealthUnlocked's policies.
Please could I advise anyone considering surgery of any kind overseas to do very careful research, including into some of the many horror stories which the NHS then has to clear up, or which never can be out right.
Thank you
Hi. That is food for thought indeed! I will do my homework. They are not cheap for sure. My brother in law and god daughter had surgery and they lost a bit but not much, it was not worth it for either of them. No carbs was not that difficult but this way I am just eating small portions and cutting out sugar but still enjoying porridge and some carbs. I was thinking of protein shakes as not eating fish or meat but had one at a friends recently and was very sweet and sickly. For me no alcohol does not seem to make much difference either to my weight sadly, maybe a little, but I am not drinking currently because of migraines... just seems sensible not to. Good luck with the ongoing journey. 😀
Hello, Thanks for your good luck message, it's much appreciated. The gym is working in certain areas of body like no joint ache or occasional sciatica feel better mentally, but when I look in mirror sideways at gym I just think where did all this weight come from, no alcohol try to watch what I'm eating but do have a treat like last night some tasty wine gums, after workout when I'm at home I have a good Grenade protein powder mix with 300ml of water then add 2 ice cubes that I put in fridge for 20 minutes after I've sorted stuff out then drink from shake bottle slowly for 5 Minute's you can choose any flavour, I'm currently trying banana flavour it's got 30gms of protein that gym instructor advised me, sorry that you suffer from migraines as I've only once ever had a real bad headache when I was about 14 yrs of age and on bus home the local ticket guy on bus said try a carton of curry from fish shop on its own and sit down quietly when home, I did this and my headache gradually left me, I believe it did the trick for me as it was my worst headache ever. If I went on keto diet I know it would work, but what can substitute bread brown and potatoes and rice pasta? If all else fails I will do this for sure. So your family member's didn't lose much weight after gastric sleeve I presume? Well that's my gym week completed so watch some local rugby&football game's Saturday and Sunday and make my own sunday/Monday dinner full of vegetables with a few small baby potatoes, I personally think it's since lymphoedema came along in 2017 that I was unable to control weight and that is not an excuse as I'm honest with myself ellamental... The weight loss injections are expensive, so many can't afford which is really unfortunate, I'd only use for maximum 1 year to kick start my hopeful weight loss, then I'd maintain, I'm lucky I've got height to help with being overweight.. Have a great weekend and look forward to hearing how your getting on 👌
Thanks. It is a mine of information. 😀
