Difficulty dieting.

Hi I'm Ian and 43 years old and am nearly hitting 19st.

The lowest I have been was 14st 7lb many years ago but its crept back on and I'm the heaviest I have ever been. I find dieting difficult around my driving job and being on a low budget.

It's now started to depress me so much I don't want to go to work.

thanks for any help.

Have you anyway of storing a packed lunch in your cab? not sure if you're a long distance lorry driver, taxi driver. Since this will help you eating unhealthy snacks as you are out and about. Exercise is good as well as dieting and since you have a dog take it for a long fast walk which makes you feel hot and slightly breathless (moderate exercise)- gradually build it up. An administrator will be in contact with you shortly to give you some suggestions and guide you to various links which may be of use to you. I am doing the NHS 12 week plan (calorie counting) and I have found it helpful though there are other people who are on specific diets its really finding one that suits you. I don't like dieting and not being able to have to food I like (crisps are my downfall) but with the calorie counting I can still have them occasionally without feeling guilty as long as they are part of my allowance. To me its just eating better and to the right level for me which is why I can see it as not being a diet!! Its all in the mind! We are a supportive lot on here from all ages, level of activity and amount of weight loss required to get in a healthy BMI range. Be realistic and break your overall total weight loss loss to smaller ones month to month basis.

Good luck and welcome

Thank you for your reply, I am a bus driver but can keep a box in my bag as there is room in my cab.

I usually rely on my other half to do all my counting but i don't think its fare on her and I should do it for myself.

Thank you again as your words have given me a little more confidence that I can actually do this before it's too late.

Good afternoon Dread hope you are well. How's things with you. I like your dog called Teddy. What age? Nice shiny coat. I have a Yorkshire Terrier called Angus. We lost our Border Collie X last year. Old age. Hope all is going well for you and good luck. George 56

Sorry to hear you lost your dog last year as I know it would have been a sad time.

Teddy is only 17 weeks old and a handful so he is keeping all my family on there toes. He has helped me overcoming my slight depressive state I had been in for a while regarding my weight and how I felt about myself. Now I seem to feel a lot happier and also with everyone's lovely comments have a new outlook on my health.

I hope you are well also and all the best 😁

Hello Ian you certainly don't look nearly 19st

Don't think about it as a diet just think of it as switching foods for healthier ones then it won't seem such a chore Once you start making a few changes you will start to see rewards and you can get back to 14st

Having that beautiful dog to walk will lift your spirits too

Keep posting on here as we don't want anyone feeling depressed on our lovely forum

Looking forward to hearing how positive you start to feel and that the weight will be coming off as it definitely will

All the very very best 😉

Hello Hidden ☺ what a lovely photograph of you and your dog ☺welcome to the weight loss forum

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

I think a newbie badge would be appropriate and thank you everyone for your inspirational comments.

Hi Ian

i started pretty similar to you, and "not looking your size" but defiantly feeling the effects, i started at 19st 12lbs, 5ft 11 so carried it really well, but desperately wanted to lose weight, and had previously tried and failed, i have now lost 8st 4.2lbs and feel great for doing so, i would suggest looking for positives and striving towards them, also walking your dog is a great way to get some exercise, wishing you the best of luck

Ryan

Thank you ian, i started as a newbie thinking it will never happen, but sticking to it and seeing others do well is a real encouragement, best of luck

I drive a lot in my job mate but I manage to keep my weight around 14 stone, you just need to eat healthy and do a bit of exercise. It sounds hard but once you get going it becomes part of the daily routine.

Good luck mate.
