I know it's the time of the year....my sister said that she's losing a lot of hair. But the amount I'm losing is ridiculous now, handfuls and handfuls-similar to post partum.
Anyone experienced this? Or is it just "that time of the year"

Hey Gobbolino, sorry to hear about the hair loss.
I'm no expert but a quick scan on the net came up with this.

Don't know if it or part of it is mumbo jumbo. Maybe someone here is more knowledgeable.
There are many reasons for hair loss. It could be something as simple as an iron or folic acid deficiency, easily remedied once diagnosed by having your bloods checked. With me it was discoid lupus erythematosis but with anything of more concern than a vitamin deficiency there would be other signs. Your GP could put your mind at rest.
Hi Gobbolino. This has happened to me twice before during periods of extreme stess and it is worrying. I massaged warm olive oil or coconut oil into my scalp and used a shower cap to leave it on overnight. I washed my hair in the morning (obviously!) and found that this really helped. I only had to do it a few times. It also really helped condition the rest of my hair. Try not to worry. It will sort itself out. 😏
I have really thick hair and have always had this trouble of loosing lots of hair all of my adult life. I don't even slightly worry about. It is just normality to me.
1st thing in the morning if I rub my hands through my hair it appears to come out in hand fulls but yet my head of hair doesnt seem to be getting any thinner.I dont do it reguraly but as there doesnt seem to be any thinning where my scalp is visible I dont let it bother me. Thyroid problems I know can cause hair loss.Only you can decide whether overall it seems to be thinning out and if so definately go and see about it.
My sister-in-law had bad hair loss when dieting. It turned out that she wasn't eating enough protein, but was living on tinned tomatoes on toast!
As others have said, there are a lot of possible reasons for hair loss. Dieting does put the body under stress, so making sure the food you are eating is high in nutrients is important. If you're worried about the hair loss, it would be a good idea to check with your doctor.
I thought it was just age? And when I washed my bathroom floor the other day, I swear, I could have made a wig with the amount of my hair that was on the scrub rag..........What's the matter with me? No new drugs, either! And I take all kinds of vitamins and minerals every day, too.....
I appear to be moulting right now. I have an underactive thyroid, but I do seem to lose a lot of hair at certain points of the year.
Thank you all for your input. I don't think anything is wrong, I think it could be that time of the year, plus the dieting-I had read about the protein, and I do struggle with it, but I think I have it under control. I have thick hair, but I do think it's thinning around the forehead (yelp!) as it did post partum. I'm sure it will pass.
Thank you!
