You need to eat good for the weight to shift better, diet is the most important thing in weight loss, exercise on is own wont do it.

I agree, diet matters more than exercise. Good luck

Thanks Guys I find diet difficult as I do enjoy a meat and 2 veg dinner after work. I am working outside all day

Brilliant. The much frowned upon, "meat and two veg" diet actually is good for you providing the portions are correct. Essentially you need to have one portion of protein (meat), one portion of starchy food (boiled spuds) and two portions of boiled veg. A good book to read is called, "Facts not Fads" available free from the British Heart Foundation. They will send you a hard copy free of charge or it can be downloaded in PDF format from their website. Once you get your head around what the book says you will start to manage your portions correctly. The benefits will be that you feel full, feel satisfied and the weight will come off.

Meat and two veg is fine-but what goes with it? Fatty gravy, butter and cream in the mash or roasties etc. Try sweet potatoes they are a) delicious and b) lower GI than ordinary potatoes. Also think about how the meat is cooked and choose lower GI veg.

Keep on thinking positive and make gradual changes. Good luck.

Have you downloaded the NHS 12 week weight loss plan? I've done 2 weeks and lost 2kg. But diet is definitely the most important part! Good luck!

Hi and welcome, Vanessa :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Have a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)
