Hi all, this is the first time I have needed to lose weight and any advice would be appreciated. I am 74 and recently had a scan which resulted in my being told my liver was slightly fatty and a more healthy diet would help. I am a bit rotund now and need to reduce my waist size by a few inches. I do not drink alcohol. Where do I start?

They have a 12 week plan which you can download. I am not 100% sure where to find it. Good Luck in your weight loss 😊
It's called the NHS 12week food plan
Hi Stans I am 68 and had a similar hospital visit but mine was a gallbladder problem I was sent home with no help just the words low fat . But I also needed to lose weight big style. All low fat diets suggest yo can eat lots of food with carbs in but if you go down that road you will perhaps gain weight Don't buy slimmers meals either is my advice they are expensive I would say eat healthily Cut out the obvious things like dairy products , that means no cakes pies biscuits cos they have fat in . You will need some potato and bread but cut out the butter or margarine you put on . Once you get your head round it it's easy If you need examples get back to me I am new on here too.
Hi Moppy. Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how I get on. It's a bit daunting when they give you this information and as you say send you home with no advice.
try swimming or aquacise 3 times a week, because if you are able to do this, you will feel fitter and I find it helps give structure to the week and I find it helps prevent those boring feelings, feel more positive with a new body shape
Hello Hidden and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The majority of our daily weigh-in's are now full, but we still have spaces in Thursday and Sunday, which you'd be very welcome to join. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.☺
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too
Best wishes
Anna
Hi Hidden . My wife had similar news from her GP a couple of years ago and came across Michael Mosley's 8 week blood sugar diet and hasn't looked back. Obviously, take advice from your own medical advisors before embarking on any change of lifestyle.
Good luck for the journey!
Hi Stan and welcome to the forum. I'm 76 and have lost 1.5 stone simply by counting calories and eating within the NHS recommended calorie range. I actually made the decision at the start that I was cutting out nothing I enjoyed as I knew for me that was unsustainable as I know myself only too well.. Obviously I counted everything that passed my lips and I never overindulged and slowly but surely the weight came off. I still had my ( counted) sweet treat every day. You may be completely different but you will find what works for you. Good luck
