Thank you for reading. I have signed up to Health Unlocked back in November but not posted yet. I have previously lost weight successfully doing Slimming World but the plan gave me some undesirable side effects so I had to abandon this. I have started a new exercise habit which I am loving so that is a good start. However, besides doing Les Mills classes 4 times a week I can feel the weight creeping back up and it is making me feel miserable. That in turn makes me comfort eat and all my "new" eating habits have pretty much gone out of the window. I keep thinking to myself that I will tackle it after Christmas but I am worrying how many pounds I could potentially add to those scales by the time 2020 is here! So what my question really is - has anybody got a good suggestion of how to get my backside in gear to stop eating all these biscuits, cakes, mince pies etc.??? Just telling myself this just does not seem to help! I need to a good shake ....

It's a tough one trying to nail the " how to" but you can try and start by clarifying your deepest reasons for wanting to by being really honest with yourself. That in itself can be a diffucult exercise for any of us as it's never straightforward cos we're such complicated, emotional beings! Once you're clear about the " why" then it should motivate you.. Perhaps something as seemingly simplistic as getting into your favourite jeans again or a more serious health concern that you want to take in hand and improve your quality of life. Either way once you've identified the motivation to take back control of your food habits then you can devise a clear plan. Part of that plan will mean swapping out the cakes, biscuits, pastries and chocolate but you can phase them out.. Rome wasn't built in a day and we can't expect to reverse built - in unhealthy habits overnight!! So now on the build up to Christmas you could try the..* OK, I'll have a shortbread but I'll skip the mince pie "approach. Sometimes we throw the towel in thinking: Well, I've already messed up so I'll keep on eating..... but we can stop ourselves, be kind to ourselves and not beat ourselves up in the process!! It's a slow process but we've got time. The important thing is taking the first step and you've done that... So keep it up now!!!! You'll get loads of links and great tips from so many fab people here. Enjoy!!!!
Thank you 19sunflower - you are right, I have to make sure I get to the "why" to make sure my motivation does not fold within 2 hours. And patience has never been a strong point of mine which shows in my all or nothing approach in a lot of things including weight loss. I am either all 100 % strict on food or I eat whatever gets in front of me. Self love and self respect is one of the things I need to learn plus having patience with myself! I hope I won't bore you all but I am planning to post everyday to help me to keep with it :0) xx
Thank you for your help! I actually feel quite emotional because I did not expect a response so quickly! Makes me realise I am not alone with this! :0) xx
O definitely not alone! The way people respond to each other on here is one of the site key-points!! Checking in every day is z good idea, why not do it on the Daily Diary pages? That's where people chip in every day with plans, share ideas and get support, Monday's is open now but people will be posting on there till late tomorrow. Your badge will change according to weight loss if you become z regular contributor on a Weigh In page, you'll see these as you explore around π€
Will try and add a link in a minute to Sunday and Monday's Daily Diary so you csn see what I mean
Hi Diane.. You can tell I'm a beginner tooπI haven't really got to grips with badges?? Where can you see them, how do I get them.. Have I not read a part of my Newbies post maybe?? Thanks in advance.
Hi, there's a 2019November badge beside your name, in grey. If you can't see it, I'm assuming you're using the app: unfortunately, the app doesn't give access to the whole forum so you're best getting rid of it and using the webpage, whatever device you're using.
Weight loss badges are given to active and supportive members of a weigh-in team. I think you've joined the Saturday team and they are just wonderful so stick with them. We ask everyone to reply to at least 3 others on the weigh-ins so we share the support and encouragement around: you'll get the most interaction if you get there early.
I would say that you're doing a good level of exercise so it must come down to what and how you eat. This is a great place for learning and I, for one, have a very different understanding of what constitutes healthy eating than I did when I joined.
Eat plenty of good food, including fat, at mealtimes.
I rarely refuse a second helping - but I rarely eat after 14:00!
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
Hi Tams2504 and welcome. Iβm a newbie myself but a tip I was given was to watch what I ate after exercise. I often treated myself because I thought Iβd earned it. Good luck for your journey.
This weight loss business is hard work, I've struggled with my weight since having children,
Now I'm 46 and on the weight loss road again, I kept saying to myself I'm gunna start on the first of December, god knows why. Anyway I've done slimming world every time I've lost weight, But this time I didn't want to, so about 3 weeks ago, I cut of some dairy products, went on to fruit tea and just took an interest it's what's going into my body..
I'm not making a big deal of it this time and the only excuse I do is I walk every day, So I thought I'll weigh myself can't of lost much, I'd only lost a stone, I was completely shock. What I'm trying to say hun is don't punish yourself, You can do this I believe in you.. Happy Monday..
Thank you Clark19 , what a lovely reply! We can do this, right? Hope you have a great day! I am planning to eat as normal for now but stay away from the Christmas chocolates etc. apart from actual occasions - not just because "they are there". That is probably my biggest issue, eating for the sake of eating, not out of hunger.
I felt inspired after reading the link on intermittent fasting and have started eating from lunchtime - 7pm. It is proving quite easy and I motivate myself by thinking about mybimproved insulin levels and the burning of my stored fat. Check out the links sent by S11m.
I have lost 3.5 stone in the last two years. I have another 1.5 to go to get to my healthy BMI weight.
I am 47 years old and feel that I have dieted all my life, having joined various clubs at different times. However for the last couple of years I have stopped worrying, eaten sensibly for most of the time, not stressed when I fall off the wagon a little and started jogging.
Just not worrying about it and seeing my weight loss journey as being a long haul has helped me.
Good luck!
Hey Tams welcome! π
You've already been given lots of great advice so there's not much I can add except to say definitely join a weigh in day group (mine is Saturday hosted by Joanney69 and everyone is amazingly supportive)
And for me (someone who has previously lost over 7st by using a pretty miserable and punishing regime and failing to be able to maintain, and regaining 5st back), its really helping to be kind to myself, to realise I don't have to use ironclad willpower (that ALWAYS ultimately fails), that I can eat or drink whatever I want, whenever I want: it's completely my choice, BUT how much better I feel not eating crap or boozing! π so atm I'm Happily Choosing to respect myself by eating well and being more active. I'm also part of the healthy mind set/gratitude group on here hosted by HealthyTanja which is awesome and is helping me no end with my mental health
Best of luck π in your journey (just think: "I can and I will" πββοΈ).
