We are all constantly tempted every time we go into a shop with all of the delicious food and treats on offer! There are takeaways on every street and every other advert on tv is about food. I used to be so skinny and just used to snack and eat one good cooked meal a day. I didn't used to feel hungry at all. I have never eaten breakfast and still can't. All the advice we are given about starvation mode and not drinking enough water and building muscle is just not true. The simple truth is that we all eat more than we need and eating constantly has become the norm! Think about it! Did those poor people on the concentration camps go into starvation mode and store fat?? Do the starving children in third world countries store fat? While we have to take responsibility for our own health we live in a society that is literally pushing food down our throats constantly. And I know this because I am in my fifties and remember the days when there were no shops on every corner and not such a huge choice of food available.
Temptation.: We are all constantly... - Weight Loss Support
Temptation.
I think you are making a very valid point. wendywoo66 . There are always dramatic headlines about 'saturated fats' or 'the evils of sugar' but at the end of the day portion sizes are getting bigger and bigger. 😕
I grew up with proper food and three meals a day. Dessert was for Sunday. Snacks were just not on the agenda.
It has taken 18 months of hard work but I'm getting back there 😊
Good luck in your journey 😊
Snap Anna I grew up like that Things were treats then too like we might have fish and chips every now and then or on a Sunday we were allowed a fizzy drink with our dinner ! There wasn't any snacking I can even remember my mum buying a tin of Nescafé coffee and we were only allowed a cup on a Sunday morning !!
I enjoyed food much more then and was never overweight How many people in those days were obese ?
Happy days 😀
Your last sentence is exactly what I said in reply to someone yesterday as when I was a child we had meals cooked from scratch there weren't takeaways We didn't have a freezer to fill with ready meals No huge supermarkets my mum used to pick us up from school on a Friday and go to all the individual shops butchers greengrocers etc
You are so right we are bombarded by food adverts and now all this craze for baking too If I went back to eating like I did when I was a child I wouldn't have a weight problem it's a completely different world now The only cook on tv I can remember then was Fanny Craddock 😀
Me too Hidden when I started I was snacking on fruit a bit. Now I rarely eat anything outside of my 3 meals and I don't feel hungry. I do fee temptation to eat particularly when I see stuff around me but I know that I am not actually hungry.
I agree... when.I was young my mum went to the shop and made everything from scratch and we had proper food... I'm the youngest of 5 and my parents didn't have the money to take us out for meal or buy us treats .. so when we did get sweets or maybe fish & chips it was a treat.. which we thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward too !
I wasn't big as a child it's only when I left home... started eating Pasta.. eating pizza's & takeaways, going out & drinking alcohol that the weight piled on.
Ive always cook from scratch for my children too and none of them are overweight and are all healthy... they don't like microwave meals or sauces out of a jar and if I don't have time to make stuff and give them fish fingers & chips I feel like a bad mum as the kids prefer my home cooked stews, roast dinner or shepherds pie etc...
My problem is I've always made sure the kids were fed properly and not bothered about myself which is just a habit that im trying to break now by eating healthly myself.
That's just like me Claz I was very slim but then being the one who bought the food there was so much temptation and not the discipline of my mum Fish and chips were a real treat weren't they and sweets We were allowed to have sweets every Friday when my mum went in to pay the papers !
We very rarely went out for a meal except on holiday or if my dad had a day off we would go out lunchtime when they took us into town shopping
What I hate now is you can buy anything all year round hot + buns are in the shops now we only ever had them at Easter Nothing seems "special " food wise anymore Oh dear I sound a really sad person 🤗 I just remember it was a simpler happier time 😊
I think you can say the same about most things now especially xmas... I didn't get a lot myself but what I got I appreciated.. now i get my kids stuff all year round and it takes the 'specialness' of xmas away a bit. which is really sad !
You're so right Claz☺
I grew up on home cooked meals too, having takeaways were only on occasion, something seen as a 'treat'. Then you become a student and decide to treat yourself everyday *sighs*
Sounds like your children have truly benefited from all the love you poured into those meals☺
Time to take care of yourself now.
Happy mum=happy family💜

I don't ever remember feeling the need to snack then and chocolate was an absolute treat I'm glad you have managed to recapture those days ☺️
Totally agree coffee shops now are everywhere and so much "food porn" that's a great way of seeing it 😄
I think obesity is common now. But I remember there was a lady and her daughter living near us who was really obese. My mom always said don't laugh or mock them because between you and them there is only a chocolate. My mom baked us some treats but it lasted for ever. I couldn't eat sweets when I was young. It tasted awful and then when I was 16 or so I started with a small bite of chocolate and gradually it got more. Until I ate my way into obesity.
BUT I am going to eat myself out of it. Because between me and a healthy weight there is water and healthy meals.
