Fitness advice following knee replacement

Hi all. I have decided to lose weight and want to begin an exercise program. I had a partial knee replacement in August 2016 so cant follow the Couch to 5K running program. Are there any guided programs for people in my position? I'm new here by the way, aged 54, badly overweight (25st) and want to do something about it. Any help, advice would be gratefully. I quit smoking 2 years ago and have not touched one since so I know I have the willpower, just need the guidance. Thanks.

Hello RockPython54

Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Your post really resonates with me as I also have joint problems made worse by carrying extra weight which made the joints even worse - a vicious circle 😕

Losing weight is more about what you eat than exercise, although movement definitely helps with joint issues. Have a good look around the forum, especially the Newbies post (in the Pinned Posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile) and also the links to the NHS 12 week plan. This is an excellent weight loss plan with weekly emails and support. The forum has weigh in threads on 6 days of the week that you are welcome to join, as well as regular challenges ☺.

Don't forget to take your initial measurements and photographs as it's a great way of seeing just how far you've come, especially when the scales aren't co-operating. I also like to keep track of my exercise, I have an activity tracker and also write down in a book how long I have exercised for. It's very encouraging to see this increasing from the initial 5 minutes when I started ☺

We are a very friendly group so please ask if you have any questions

Best wishes

Anna

Thanks Anna. I am following the NHS plan and I like that it gives you a structure to follow. Only one week in so far but doing well and have kicked out sugar completely. Long way to go and need to do it in small steps but really need to do it this time. Been a couch potato for far too long. Toni
